Guest guest
Hey everyone! This is again, from Nebraska. Well, I had my pre-surgery " mold " session with my ortho this past weekend. He says the next step is to meet with my OS this week and set a date. We are aiming for the first week in July. I guess my question is, what kind of questions should I be asking my surgeon? I don't know what I need to know. I have been reading all of the posts for about two months now, but I guess I am still a little clueless (and nervous!!) I had a dream about the surgery last night, and it just is starting to feel so real now. I am starting to get anxious and question how I will be after the surgery. Any help or potential questions for my OS would be greatly appreciated!

I've asked a detailed schedule of events, so I would know what to expect and when (how much time banded, etc.). I've asked a list of medication I would require once I would get home, and what are the things I'm required to do (ice, heat, sleep, etc.) I've also ask how soon I would be permitted to go out take a walk (fresh air does wonder for the spirits and the body as well). Since I quit smoking, I've asked her what if I started to cough... She handed me a pair of cutters... ;-) I've also asked her what were the foods she knew were amongst the best to recuperate faster. She handed me a printed list of stuff for the first few days, and then the following days. I wanted to know what utensils I would need to eat, and she said she'd give me a few syringe to start, and that I'd need to buy my own later. Since it was my first " journey " in an hospital (that I can remember of), I've asked her " How does it work..? " She told me to bring pyjamas, slippers, one magazine (you won't be able to read much), nothing else. No valuable objects, no walkman, etc. Finally, I've asked her how am I going to sleep. She suggested a few positions (which weren't very comfortable...) and she also added to take the Salinex (salty nasal spray) as soon as my nose would feel like it (unable to breath) during the night. That's about it! Bring a printed (written) list of questions. Ask more than otherwise. When you visit your surgeon, next, try to know how much time you're allowed with him. I was allowed as much time as I would need because my surgeon always keep her surgery patient as the very last person she sees in a day (I went in at 4h00, got out at 7h15).
