Guest guest
Dear Group, I haven't seen a post from Fisher lately. Is he doing alright? I always enjoyed his posts. I've been out of town and just wondering if he is out of town or not feeling well. Guest guest
I'm baaaaccckkkk !!! The merger of Compaq and HP continues, with reorganizations, layoffs, and SERIOUS projects to attempt to improve problems. I have been VERY busy with work. On top of that, my daughter went off to college for the first time. Now that's something to increase stress. Feelings run so deep at a time like that. And all of it only amplifies symptoms, though I would not trade family experiences like this for anything. Many years ago, I decided to spend more time with family, and not focus on career. It was one of the best decisions I could make. So, I will attempt to stay in the loop. Thanks for asking. Regards, =jbf= B. Fisher

Guest guest
Hello , Just wondering, what kind of hours are you able to work and are you able to work from home some or all of those hours? My brother worked until July when he finally was encouraged by his employer to take disability leave. I think he really misses his job -- he was a city planner. What college is your daughter attending? Like the others, I was glad to see your post. Regards, Jerry Cash Re: where is Fisher? I'm baaaaccckkkk !!! Guest guest
Greetings Jerry, I work from 8 am to 5 pm EST. For more than a decade I worked from home. For the first three years of that, it was as a mobile worker (visiting customers, etc), and occassionally returned to the office. The past 8 years has been exclusively a work from home environment. Due to excessive symptoms (increased ataxia with even a short commute) and the amount of time required to recover (hours), travel to an office is no longer possible. God is gracious. I am a true knowledge worker. As a Systems Consultant, I provide HP OpenVMS Systems and Software Support for Business Critical customers. Though dealing with stressful situations decreases my ability to work, customers still need my background, experience and expertise. What I can do rarely ever requires face to face communications. So, once again, God guided me to the right place at the right time -- even when it first appeared to be a 'last resort' position. About seven years ago, after repeated warnings from me that precluding me from selling services would dry up a 4-10 million dollar revenue stream, I was forced to stop developing business opportunities. Six months later, the day after Christmas, my manager informed me there was no longer enough business in our area to keep me with the company. DOH! Anyway, I got on the horn and called in some favors (which I rarely do). I was finally able to find another position in the company, which required a step down in level in the company. It felt as if it was a 'last resort' position, but I decided to make it work. This was before my symptoms were fully present. I knew something was up, but we had no idea what it was. So, here I am in the only position that would work for me. It was VERY stressful getting here. I essentially lost my job. But found a new position two weeks before termination. God is gracious, indeed! Yes, your brother would miss his job. You might suggest volunteer positions. His ability to plan and help guide projects is sorely required in may volunteer projects. For instance, Habitat for Humanity would LOVE to have him help guide their way through interactions with local governments. Since it is a volunteer position, he should be able craft the position to fit his unique needs. Due to the disability leave, he should check with his insurance company. Most accept some part-time volunteer work. My daughter is headed to a small college in the foot hills of the Appalachian Mountains. Sorry, I prefer not to get more specific than that. However, the college appears to go out of its way to help integrate students into their school system. It should be a good experience. Regards, =jbf= B. Guest guest
Hi , Does that mean you can tell me why my HP 3100 is misfeeding? :-) Seriously, I am happy to hear that your career is continuing in spite of the illness. I will pass your suggestions on to Larry. He has sold his home in Richmond, Indiana and is moving back to New Castle (close to where I live) next month. I think after he is settled in he may be inclined to do some volunteering. Actually, my assistant at work is on the Habitat board locally, and I'm sure she could invite him to participate if he is interested. Speaking of Appalachian foot hills colleges, my grandmother and mother both attended Berea College in Western Kentucky. However, I'm not sure it was officially a college when my grandmother attended. My grandmother was a teacher and my mother a nurse. When my mother attended Berea was a " working college " , meaning the students had assigned work programs in lieu of tuition. :-) Again, great to hear from you. Jerry Re: where is Fisher? Guest guest
Jerry, Just a note. HP has a free fix for the 3100 feed problem. If you go to the HP web site under service you can order the fix. It is free. It is an applique to the feed mechanism. Pretty easy to install. It does work we fixed a couple dozen at work. Guest guest
Hi Carole, I live in New Castle, Indiana. There are, of course, a lot of New Castles in the US and, in fact, our Chamber of Commerce recently hosted a " New Castle " convention attended by Chamber members from many of those cities/towns.
