Guest guest
What did you have done? It is hard for me to imagine not liking the outcome, though i know that is possible, as most who even go this route are displeased in some way with function or look. I have such a short lower jaw and a gummy smile that i KNOW i will look better than i do. (And to be a tad bit vain, i really am overall pleased with myself right now!) Sorry to hear of your frustration. Please keep checking this board. I am going in this Friday and worry about my recovery, but i do have positive feelings about the results. My surgeon is GREAT. Guest guest
Hi , I had lower jaw advancement done. I had a very large over bite that could not be corrected with braces alone. I really don't think this is about my surgeon skills because she did an awesome job and she is a really skilled surgeon. It's just about me adjusting to looking different. I definitely don't look the same with my jaw in a new position. I too was ok with my looks prior to surgery. It's funny tho, most of my friends and family keep telling the change looks better but when you are used to looking at your face looking a certain way for so many years it takes time to adjust. Don't let me scare you I'm sure in time I will learn to adjust. Hopefully most of what I don't like is just do to swelling and have a puffy face. Good luck. Guest guest
I totally understand. there are a LOT of friends and family who wonder why i am going through this and say all the time i look great the way i am. i am SURE it is the adjustment and you make a good point about looking at yourself a certain way for so long. I am 41 and it's been a long " looking time " . One of my students (i am a fifth grade teacher) drew two pictures of me this year and both of them have little to no chin. THese i will keep forever as remembrances! Hi , > > I had lower jaw advancement done. I had a very large over bite that > could not be corrected with braces alone. Guest guest
Honey, think about all the things you had done to your bones and other tissues. It's gonna take a lot longer than three weeks, probably, for you to have any real notion of the true outcome. Sometimes a year, or even more... Your face has been insulted, and it's not eager to fall into its lasting patterns. Do try to be patient, and be of good cheer. You have a whole future to discover, out there. I am sympathetic, and for years now I have read similar posts from others. But give yourself some time. Ask your surgeon about your concerns, but remember, too, that you're in a healing process.
