Guest guest
Hello group, I have a questoins for those with sleep disturbance experience, my brother's wife says that he is having more signficant problems with sleep disturbances and I wonder what meds any of you may have had good results with in terms of helping to control sleep disturbances without adding a lot of unpleasant side effects such as excessive morning drowsiness. Guest guest
Jerry, The most often used medication (and actually the only one I know of) to treat REM behavior disorder is klonopin (aka clonazapam). It is a central nervous system depressant and IS addictive, so it must be used with care. Not all patients can tolerate it, but Rob has been taking it for about 10 years and could not function without it. In fact, neither could I, since without it his sleep is terrible! Guest guest
Thanks Carol, I'll pass that on to Larry and he can check with his neuro to see if she thinks he should try the Klonopin. He and his wife had us laughing til we were almost in tears last evening when they were talking about some of the things he does and says in his sleep. But, I know she is getting concerned that the REM disturbances are getting more severe and he has started having problems rolling out of bed. I did find some bed side-rails on the internet last week that I ordered to see if they help with that problem. He is falling a lot more now too, which concerns me. He has a big hematoma on his back side from falling while trying to sit down and missing the couch. He says he has no control -- once he commits to sitting down he can't stop the process. He has installed arm rails n the commode to help in the location. Thanks again, Jerry Re: sleep disturbances Jerry, The most often used medication (and actually the only one I know of) to treat REM behavior disorder is klonopin (aka clonazapam). Guest guest
Jerry, Oh, believe me I can add to the sleep stories! Many have already heard this story, but Rob actually walked down the stairs and out the front door in his sleep. He heard me calling him but didn't stop because in his dream the aliens had possessed me and he wasn't going to be fooled! Fortunately it was about 2 AM -- he woke up when he got to the street because he was chilly -- he sleeps in the nude....
