Guest guest
Hi, I'd like to thank everyone for their posts, it had been such a great help to read everyone's experiences. I just wanted to share a bit of disappointment I recently had. I was scheduled to have surgery this past Monday on my upper and lower jaw to correct my underbite, it was supposed to have been a 7 hour surgery. I arrived at the hospital at 6am on Monday morning, and at 7:30am, they were right on schedule, and I was knocked out by the anesthesia within seconds. I woke up a few hours later, and to my dismay was told that my surgery had been canceled. My oral surgeon made last minute checks and found that the models they had of my bite was not 100% in line with my actual bite. I cried when they told me (and now sure why). So I was stuck in the hospital that day until 5pm because of the effects the anesthesia had on me. I understand they just wanted everything to be perfect before the operation, but still, I was anticipating this day, and to have it pushed off a few more weeks was a bit of a disappointment. Well at least now I know what to expect the next time i go in...a sore throat, a bloody nose, and a big hole in my hand from the IV needle...of course, except next time my whole face will be sore :-) -Jane
Guest guest
That is disappointing, sorry about that - I wonder what happened to cause your models not to match your bite? The other question of course is who picks up the tab for all the wasted resources at the hospital? Guest guest
Jay, that's what I was wondering also. I can definitely see how that would upset you, Jane, I'd be devastated to wake up thinking it was all over and find out it never even started. Well, good luck when it really is time for your surgery, sorry to hear the bad news. > > Hi, > > > > I'd like to thank everyone for their posts, it had been such a > great > > help to read everyone's experiences. Guest guest
Oh Jnae I'm so sorry that has to be really tough, but like you said it will make things better in the end. Guest guest
That's unbelievable! That's like a lawyer walking into court and then telling the judge " oops sorry, I haven't read my client's case yet so let's postpone the hearing please " . I would have hit the roof! Sorry, if this just makes you even more upset. But quite frankly it upsets me. I can't believe how unprofessional that is of your OS. > > > Hi, > > > > I'd like to thank everyone for their posts, it had been such a > great > > help to read everyone's experiences. Guest guest
I may be wrong... But I think your docs served you well. If they thought you were not ready, it was a good move to pull back, rather than do the surgery too soon and leave you with problems. I would probably have hit the roof, too. But still, I'd rather have my docs decide not to take action if they think the time is not ripe. Just one notion.. I would much rather have my doc retreat, even after IV insertion, than proceed when he felt me unprepared. Cammie > That's unbelievable! Guest guest
Yah, I was pretty upset waking up to their decision, but in the end, I do agree with you..they did cancel it only for my benefit. I mean, my OS is pretty reputable in this area (philly suburb), so I gotta give him some credit for his ethics. as for the question on who pays hospital fees...they told me not to worry about it. > I may be wrong...
