Guest guest
Recently we have had a number of posts on PET scans et al. The following post from Dr. Lieberman will lead you to a site that will tell you more than you ever need to know about this technology. I believe it is oriented to med students. However, if you scan it you can get a feel for the complexity and power of this diagnostic tool. It is nice to know we have such tools available. Subject: F-Dpoa Pet Scan Date: Tue, 13 Aug 2002 01:52:48 -0500 X-Message-Number: 2 Dear Dr. Lieberman, I am 46 and have been diagnosed with PD for about seven years. I have = been to Emory in Atlanta and now I am a patient with Dr. = Perlmutter, at in St. Louis.=20 My question is two fold. I recently read about an F-DOPA PET scan that = can diagnose PD. A lady posted that she had it done at Long Island = Jewish Medical Center and that it has been available for almost 15 = years. She also stated that she was scheduled for a = flora-deoxy-hydro-glocose pet scan to confirm the diagnoses. Can you = tell us a little about these? If both or either of these can tell exactly what I have, where it's at = and how bad it is, why haven't we heard about these before? Should I = request one? I have been considering asking for the DBS surgery on = October when I see the good Dr. on my next visit. Please respond! = Thanks, Jim answer please read the following http://www.crump.ucla.edu/software/lpp/clinpetneuro/parkinsons.html dr pearlmutter at washington university is one of the world authorities on pet scan in pd abe lieberman Sennewald Charlottesville, Virginia
