Guest guest
Ditto - I did not see it either. Could someone resend it please? Message: 2 Date: Thu, 15 Aug 2002 14:41:17 -0400 Subject: Flash light tracking That is one message that I did not get. I may get it in a few months who knows. If anyone has the information, could you let me have it. Vera, about the singing, I sound like Edith on All in the Family, maybe even worse. Guest guest
Are you referring to the exercise to improve tracking? This was shown us at the Rehabilitation Institute of Santa Barbara after Bob's heart attack. Eack person holds a flashlight, and the patient must follow the light that you shine on the wall. Move it slowly as far as possible one direction and then the other, up and then down. I was so amazed that Bob could do this, as he has such a hard time turning his head (eyes) from side to side. I really need to do this more with him - but have to find a dark area. Actually, at Rahab they used a little laser light. They are inexpensive - under $10, I think. Then reduced light isn't required. I'm interested in knowing if anyone else has surprisingly good results with this.... Elaine Grimmesey
Guest guest
His head AND eyes (at least, that's what Bob does!) It is absolutely amazine how far he can turn his head when we do this slowly.....it has been a few weeks since we've done it, so had best get on the ball!!! This surely shows the neurological aspect of this illness - the eyes can see the light fine - it's just getting them to follow it!! Let me know your results. Guest guest
Hi Elaine: While the patient is doing the tracking, should he move his head & eyes, or just his eyes? Bob's neck is very stiff, so I guess this would be a good exersize for him to do. Regards, jerrie
Guest guest
Elaine: Thanks loads for the " instructions " . It sounds like a fantastic way for Bob to start to move just his head, not his whole body, to see something. Hope it helps your Bob also! Guest guest
Thanks for the repost Elaine. Terry's physical therapist tried a laser pointer to help Terry cope with her freezing. To provide a visual cue, she puts the red spot from the pointer on the floor where she wants Terry to put her foot and tells her to " step on the spot. " It seems to work. I had been thinking about this as a technique ever since I saw Terry Moller using one to provide a target for her dog to chase. Has anyone tried this technique?
