Guest guest
Hi Bill: I see your picking on me again, huh? ) The reason I said something about Saw Palmetto was because that's what Fred's urologist told him to try and then I said that I didn't think it worked any better then Cranberries. ( See right there at the bottom) Question now is ? What cranberry sauce do you think works best? Your cranberry sauce or Pam cranberry relish? ) Take Care & hugs Vera ************ Hi all, Saw Palmetto was mentioned for UTI's and I just want to mention that as a "natural supplement" it is not well controlled or tested. Food products like cranberry juice are processed in inspected plants and are subjected to random testing. However, I am not sure about cranberry pills as they are probably considered a supplement. Note too that cranberry sauce is about the right consistancy for easy swallowing. If a product is not inspected, there is a chance of contamination or bacteria in the supplement. The last thing a MSA patient needs is a bacterial infection. I always made sure Charlotte got as sterile as possible food or liquids. Another problem with untested supplements is that they vary so bad in dosage. A test of off the shelf supplements several years ago in California showed variations of up to 8 times the listed dosage. Beware of what is going into your body. There are some supplements that are tested, but a store owner is NOT the best authority on which ones are tested. Take care, Bill Werre Barb: Some herbs are used as urinary antiseptic. This maybe what they are talking about when they suggest a urinary antiseptic. Here is a list of some that are used as an urinary antiseptic. Fred's first urologist had him on Saw Palmetto for awhile to see if that would help control the UTI's. I think Cranberries work just as well. Take Care Vera
Guest guest
Vera, I STILL prefer Ocean Spray jellied cranberry sauce ) I don't like the whole berries ) If I didn't pick on you, who would? Cranberries are natural too ) But as part of my job, we toured processing plants and the difference in cleanliness between regulated food plants and unregulated canning plants was horrendous. In food processing plants, they even regulate the lubricants allowed to be used, but in a " natural supplement " packing plants I once saw a can of oil which I know had toxic ingredients, used where it could touch the product. Guest guest
Bill, This might sound like a silly question but I don't mean it to be. How much of the can of Ocean Spray jellied cranberry sauce should one eat each day to keep from having an uti? I would rather eat it than drink it. Thanks, Belinda -- In shydrager@y..., wrote: > Vera, > > I STILL prefer Ocean Spray jellied cranberry sauce ) I don't like the whole berries ) If I didn't pick on you, who would? > > Cranberries are natural too ) But as part of my job, we toured processing plants and the difference in cleanliness between regulated food plants and unregulated canning plants was horrendous. Guest guest
Belinda, I would guess as much as you wanted ) Sometimes I pig out and eat a whole can ) Look at the nutrician info on the can and decide how much of a can gives you a whole days supply of Vitamin C and/or vitamin A - I would not eat much more than that per day. In mega doses those vitamins can give you problems but unless you take huge doses of supplements or eat something like shark's liver, it's tough to ingest dangerous amounts with a normal diet. Charlotte did not like the sauce, and had a PEG (feeding) tube. So I poured about 8 ounces of juice in about twice a day (added benefit - it cleans the PEG tube). Anyone having problems with cleaning a PEG tube after supplements if cranberry juice won't clean it - try Coca Cola, pour it in and seal while it's still in the tube - then wait 30 minutes before flushing with water.
