Guest guest
Is the anesthesia used during jaw surgery the same as for removal of impacted wisdom teeth? When I had my wisdom teeth I had gas and an iv. I'm terrified of needles, so I was knocked out before the iv was started. I was just wondering. Thanks! Kim P.S. While I'm on the silly questions, I had another one that has been bugging me. Why do I have to take off my necklace and earrings before an X-ray, but it's okay to have these braces in? Any ideas? Guest guest
I am really phobic about needles, so let me try to help here. I can't even watch needles on tv without getting all woozy. I had what I think they call twilight surgery for my impacted wisdoms (lower only) about 8-9 years ago. They did what they call a butterfly, which is a very teensy pinprick type needle into the top of your hand. The bigger IV is not as nice, but you know what? You will not feel much of it, if your experience is like mine, you may feel just the initial pinch, then a teensy bit of burn (maybe), the anaesthesiologist will spray something that tastes foul up your nose to divert your attention, you might say " hey, that tastes awful " and/or " boy, that needle didn't hurt as much as I thought it would " and then about 2 seconds later you will wake up and it will be ALL OVER and you'll be on the other side (sorry about my awful sentence structure). Please do tell everyone that you are phobic. When I have to have blood taken, or a needle given, I tell them that I usually faint (which I do) and that it's best done for me while lying down (instructions from my doc). I also was told it's best to have my bloodwork done at one of the many clinics around town as they do a LOT of them (unlike my doc's office where the nurse, nice as she is, can't get a drop out of me and bruises me in the process). They use baby-sized needles on me since I have baby-sized veins. I don't know about the xrays, sorry. I guess it's because the necklace and earrings might get in the way of what they are looking at, whereas the braces don't. > Is the anesthesia used during jaw surgery the same as for removal of > impacted wisdom teeth? Guest guest
Thanks for the tip! I have actually fainted before also (from a tetnus shot, I've never had blood drawn). I really don't remember the iv from my wisdom teeth becuase I was out before they even came near me with it (they gave me gas first). I will keep all this in mind though as I start getting into specifics with my surgeon (appointment Monday to set a date, yipee!) Guest guest
I actually fell off a science lab stool during a math exam after getting a TB shot in high school - the math teacher was the type whom everyone made fun of (her name was Shirley Canby, if that gives you ideas, and she was very plain and had limited wardrobe), and she helped me to the nurse's office. When I came back, she said " you passed, don't worry about it " . Good luck with your prep! > > > Is the anesthesia used during jaw surgery the same as for removal > > of > > > impacted wisdom teeth?
