Debbie:

I am 15 weeks post-op and I still have some numbness on my chin. I had

lower done and the upper jaw was lowered with a bone graft. My OS said my

numbness could last for several months yet. Yet remember every case is

different

and yours could go away real soon. Good Luck.

I had upper and lower jaw surgery with a chin reduction. It doesn't seem like I

have loss any of the numbness in my lower lip and chin. It has only been 2 weeks

but it is very annoying I get alot of wierd feelings in my lip and chin I just

wondered if anybody else had this and how long it lasted? Good luck to

everyone.

I had the same surgery - lower jaw reduction and upper jaw also to

fix a large underbite. I had my surgery on June 2nd and I'm still

having numbness in a few areas such as my lower right chin including

the right side of my lower lip as well as right below the right eye.

Your surgeon should have told you that you would experience numbness

in certain parts of your face until the swelling and soreness

dissipates. My surgeon said that the numbness should be gone within

a few weeks, however it can also stick around in a few areas for a

matter of months. IF your surgeon had erred in his practice and hit

one of the nerves he wasnt supposed to, you may experience permanent

nerve damage leading to that funny feeling permanently. He/she is

apparently required to inform you if they did that though, so if u

hadn't heard that, rest assured that the numbness will go away

within a matter of weeks or short months and your face will be back

to normal :)

I'm at 16 days post-op and the numbness in my chin has perhaps

subsided slightly, but not much. Others have told me it takes 3

months for all the numbess to go away.

I am 10 days post-op and right out of surgery I could feel

everything, only the left side of my lower lip and the left side of

my chin was numb. The feeling is starting to come back in both

already, though very slowly. (I also had chin reduction and lower

advancement + SARPE). I also have the tingling feeling in my chin. I

don't worry about it, it's a good sign!

I am two months post-op for upper/lower and palatal split. My entire

lower face was numb up to my eyes after surgery, but it went away

over time. I am now just numb on my lower right lip and chin. It

gets a little better each day. I'm also still a little bit numb

under my eyes (I can feel it when I put on makeup each day). The

worst thing about the numbness is the feeling that your skin is

itchy--like there is a piece of hair or string tickling you. Then

when you go to scratch it it feels weird because of the numbness. I

was told by my doctor that the itchy feeling is good--it means

feeling is returning. He said the numbness could last several

months. I was surprised because he also told me he had no problems

with the nerves during surgery so he doesn't expect any permanent

numbness. It'll just take awhile for everything to settle down and

heal.
