Guest guest
Hi Beth, I am only 1 week post but I will tell you what my dr told me. In the first week or so you will have a little water retention from all the IV's at the hospital and your stomach is still swollen and stuff. The left side is where my pain is as well. If I am not mistaken thats where our stomachs are and im sure thats most of the pain. Its been through a lot in the last week. Keep up on the liquids. WHen do you get off of them? Friday is my last day.>WOOOHOO Don't know how much beef/chicken broth, SF Jello and crystal light Koolaid I can take. I am ready to be able to do protein shakes as well cause I am tired of these Ready To drink things. As of yesterday which was 6 days post op I had only lost 6 pds post op! Which brings me to like 17 total pounds. I was told it gets better..i hope so. Keep up the good work. Guest guest
My loss is 11# (today is one week) Joan C, Calif. LAP RNY 11/18/03 Dr. Higa, Fresno, CA 282/275/264/??? question Hi all, I had my surgery on 20 Nov and am wondering what the average weight loss for some of you guys were in the first week after surgery. I have a follow up with my doc tomorrow and will find out then how much on his scale, but my scale only shows a loss of 3LBS....and i know that I am sticking to the liquids like I am supposed to...Just wanted to see what it was for others. Also, I have lots of pain in my left side, and I can assume this is because most of the work was done, yes??? I did have mine LAP and had no problems with the surgery. thanks for answer these few questions beth
Guest guest
Beth there is no real average for weight loss with anyone. I think I was around 15 pounds the first week. But I weighted on my scale the morning I left for my surgery so I would know. But I honestly think a good part of that was water weight. Don't get discouraged. It starts and stops with all of us. I got to 198 last week and have not budged since then even though I am eating no differently. It will just go like that. Some days it will move so fast and some days it drags. But you will lose. The pain on the left side seems to be very common. I also had it. I believe that is where they put the tool they use for the stapling so there is alot more movement there. That is what my doc said anyway. It goes away in a few weeks. Guest guest
Thank you. I know lately I haven't been eating as many meals as I should be. Just a very busy time of year for me. My kids are keeping me hoping with there activities. I am having a hard time finding a protein drink I like also. I thought about getting a vanilla powder and mixing it with a banana. I have been eating what I am suppose to, haven't had anything I am not suppose to. I will be happy to see the scales move again. Pam
Guest guest
Thank you . I guess it just freaked me out that I stayed that way for a week. But then again I think its only been 5 weeks, if I can lose 25 a month I will hit my goal at 6 months. I am going to start at a health spa tomorrow. So that hopefully will help allot. What types of protein do you eat? I would like to find a good fish to try also. I don't like a very fishy tasting one. Pam
Guest guest
Hi Pam, You've hit a plateau! I hit one right around the same time table at 5 weeks post-op. Remember you're body is getting use to not being fed as much and it's holding on to everything it's got. Even though we don't feel it (thank goodness) we're staving our bodies to some degree. Eventually the scale just moved again for me and it will for you. Try mixing things up a bit with your food intake. Try less carbs, more protein drink, more water. The scale will move again, trust me it will. It's hard to get through these plateau's; I've had 2 since post-op but I'm still doing great for 4 1/2 months out (-87lbs). Good luck! Guest guest
Pam, Stress can also cause problems, remember to try and take some time for yourself. Another thing is to increase the amount of exercise you do, for instance if right now you're walking for 2 miles, try for 2 1/2 or 3 miles, if you're exercising for 30 minutes, do 45 and do it a little harder. This can often help especially when you up your protein --I know it sounds weird but if you increase the amount of food you eat as well, this can help break the plateau. One other trick, don't get on the scale if it's that time of the month...you'll only be disappointed--at least I always am.... You are doing a great job and I wouldn't worry about it too much. The weight will come off....just make sure you're doing all you can and it sounds like you are. 26 lbs is nothing to sneeze at!!! T. Guest guest
I eat a lot of chicken and fish and ground turkey on occasion. The fish I buy is Kroger brand grilled fillets. If you have a Kroger near you, I think these are better than the Gorton's and they have less calories and are higher in protein and they taste really good. I'm going to start protein drinks soon (haven't used any up to this point because doc doesn't recommend them) because I'm starting to see a slow down in my weight loss and I still have quite a bit to go. I'm not complaining mind you...just want the rest of it off! Good Luck! T. Guest guest
Hi all- After surgery, when you return to the orthodontic treatment, and the ortho puts you in elastics, about how long do you wear those elastics? Jay
