Anxiety from a Mom, and Reactions from Community

Hi folks:

I've been following the posts...and have been reassured by

people asking similar questions as I did...though I come to the

group from the Mom perspective. My 15 year old son had his

lower jaw advancement June 16...and is doing pretty well. Had

his first post-op appointment yesterday and the X-rays looked

great...It was rather odd to see the screws so clearly. Will he set

off the metal detectors in airports?

Naturally, I began worrying about this surgery some time

ago...but in the 6 weeks prior to it had my own anxiety reactions--

worrying about my son having nausea and throwing up (which

lead me at 3am to my computer...and where I found this

group...and asked a question about nausea and received very

helpful and calming replies....)..My son has always been much

more practical and on a need to know basis with it all. He asks

questions when he's ready, and seems satisfied with the

answers from the OS.

ANYWAY...it's funny to see the reactions of people in my

community...I worried about his jaws being wired for 6

weeks...and the nausea issue. Now, over a week post-surgery,

my friends are just starting to wonder these same things...I was

at a community event tonight and it was funny to see people's

reactions and fears about it come to light.

The reality feels much less scary now at Day 11. My son is trying

recipes in the blender in an attempt to get something interesting

into his body...and it appears that his sense of humor is intact. I

am sending support to all of the folks about to have surgery, and

continued thanks to the group for their humor and wisdom.

a mom...
