Guest guest
, 60% or more of MSA patients are men. Yet we have had less than a dozen male caregivers on the list over the years (who write anyway). You are the human behaviour expert ) you tell me. I did take supervisory courses in human behavior ) BUT I never had a woman apply for any machinist jobs ) I did meet a woman machinist one time and she seemed to be well informed on the latest techniques in metal working. However, most women do not like to get their hands dirty ) and that is impossible when cutting ot forming metal. I DO remember that it was explained to us that men and women DO process information differently. AND I do sometimes irritate many women on the list with my analytic comments at times, when I am just trying to explain a fact. More women are " Feelers " rather than " Judgers " - at least that is what they taught me ) I always score close to the middle between the F and J - but always at least one more on the J side (can't remember is that Myers-Briggs) ) The list itself tends to be very much on the Feeler side ) and logic tends to get squashed at times, BUT if you keep communicating, things tend to stay at an even keel. ) Just like supervising a group of highly skilled people with different ideas about how a job should be done. There may be 5 ways to do a job, but only one way is best for a specific person. I think most men have trouble dealing with the illogical effects of MSA. It is not something that more time and effort can necessarily beat and it follows no logical progression. I know as an engineer, it bothered me that no solution could be found, just as several other men have expressed to me, so I am not alone. I have learned that the only way to beat that feeling for me - is to get as much info on it as possible to as many people as possible. That is why I am here - I hope I can help a few people beat MSA for a few years until a cure comes along. Guest guest
Marilyn, With the exception of some farm gals, like my mom, I have seen few women who wanted to work around machinery which was greasy. In the metalworking trades, the number of women is about 3% and auto mechanics the number is similar. When it comes to jobs where patience is required, like intricate (and clean) mechanical assembly - that is another story as women (on the average) have more patience than men. Do you like to get all greasy working on cars ?? ) I know Charlotte did not like to get greasy. Even when she worked as manager of a gas station (which did repairs) she did NOT do anything to get dirty ) She had the men do the cleaning ) Now she did NOT mind getting her hands dirty in dirt ) But when it came to digging holes in our shale clay dirt for bushes with a pick and shovel, guess who was elected ) She liked puttering around with her flowers almost to her death - I had a table on the deck for her to repot plants and make up her hanging baskets. Even Vera did not pick on me about that remark - of course she will fire something at me today ) Take care, Bill Werre ================================= > > > Date: 2002/08/20 Tue PM 11:35:06 CDT > To: shydrager > > Subject: Re: Re: male/female content of list > > Bill, > > Whew!!!!
