Guest guest
Many of you have said that days 3 and 4 have been your hardest. I am there right now. The pain is pretty tough and the Perocets are bothering my stomach. i am still continuing to eat well, but can barely make it the 4 hours till the nxt pain pill. Any advice? Should i use half a percocet and half tylenol? my swelling is actually better, not the numbness, it's really just the pain that is tough right now. Is that what most of you experienced subsiding a bit after day 4? I hope so. Thanks,

I was also prescribed 1 tylenol and 1 dose of codeine. It worked better when the two were synchronized (taken together). Ray
Guest guest
i am going to call my dr about the tylenol. i think the straight percoset is bothering my head and stomach too much. yes, ihave been using cold towels, but not hot. the cold feels good. i will try the warm. does the pain drop significantly after this time period? Guest guest
Hi - sorry you're hurting. If it was me, I would up the dose of pain medication. I was on that codeine/tylenol syrup and it seemed to work fine for me. It was like " two teaspoonfuls every 4-6 hours as needed " but I wouldn't hesitate to take another teaspoonful after 2 hours if I was still hurting. The key is to keep taking the pain meds. Don't wait for it to start hurting before you take them, because it's much harder to knock the pain down than it is to keep it down. If you can't take your pain meds because they are bothering your stomach, you need to call your doctor and see if there is something else he/she can give you. Hope this helps, Jay > Many of you have said that days 3 and 4 have been your hardest. I am > there right now. Guest guest
I believe that it is also possible to get pain relief by way of suppositories, thus avoiding actual action of the drug with you stomach. It's worth asking, if you haven't found relief another way already. Sorry you're having such troubles. Guest guest
Day 3/4 were certainly the worst for me. Everyone's experience is different. I didn't feel hardly any pain. Instead, I'd describe it more as discomfort of everything going on in my face. I couldn't sleep, I couldn't relax and just enjoy whatever it was I was doing. It was a state of hell! It all got better after Day 4. Except for some major headaches which started around Day 7 everything else got better. I'm on Day 14 now and I can honestly say I'm 90%. I just wish I got the ok to recommence physical activity. But I realize I must be patient. > Many of you have said that days 3 and 4 have been your hardest. I am > there right now. Guest guest
i know what you mean about the discomfort. i am on day four and i have not been sleeping very well and have definitly needed to take the pain meds. The numbness, itchiness and swelling, headaches and difficulty eating have made this quite a challenge. i have to say that i really don't mind though, as long as i am happy with the results. i am thinking that my upper jaw is tilted though and after reading some posts this morn, am pretty nervous. i will see my OS on Friday, one week post surgery. i am having a hard time keeping my mouth clean and that freaks me out. Does the SWISHING get better? Katiie > > Many of you have said that days 3 and 4 have been your hardest. I > am > > there right now. Guest guest
I'm not sure what you mean by " your upper jaw is tilted " ? Are all your teeth making proper contact? It doesn't have to be perfect, because there may still be some orthodontic work to do. But they should all at least touch I believe. You refer to the swishing. I'm at DAy 15 and I still drool when I try and swish if that's what you mean. But yes, it does get easier. It's the numbness in my lips that makes me drool. Guest guest
Marco, When i look at my upper teeth, one side is lower than the other, when i try to close my bite, i can feel the teeth touching more on one side than the other. i am trying not to panic has the dr went in and put in 3 elastics on one side two on the other and i would think would have noticed. since there is so much numbness, now that i am trying it, my teeth might only meet on one side. YIKES. I think i can also feel a screw up by my nose bridge/eye area when i scratch. this is freaking me out. > > i know what you mean about the discomfort. i am on day four and i > > have not been sleeping very well and have definitly needed to take > > the pain meds. Guest guest
Honest -- it is probably too early to worry. If you ARE worried, though, ask your surgeon. Much better for him and/or your ortho to tell you that than for me to do so. When I got the splint off at 7 weeks, exactly two teeth met. One was really high, because the occlusion had changed, and the ortho made some changes, using his grinder, the next morning. Then, using his elastics, he made the rest of them! ;~) Cammie > > i know what you mean about the discomfort. i am on day four and i > > have not been sleeping very well and have definitly needed to take > > the pain meds. Guest guest
, That does sound scary. But don't go freaking out just yet. Firstly, freaking out doesn't help anything. Secondly, you'll learn the answer soon enough. Worst case scenario you'll need another surgery. Which I know sucks big time! But that's still a big maybe. Probably it's something they can fix orthodontically. I'll keep my fingers crossed your you!
