Guest guest
Thus far, the recovery has gone really well, though I have, not surprisingly, had a tough time eating. Aside from that, all was going well until last night, when I started to hear my left jaw-joint grinding. After the operation, the Doctors acknowleged that my jaw was dislocated, but never said anything beyond that. Now, when talking (mumbling) or eating (when I need to open my jaw a bit to get food in) the grinding continues, with sharp, peircing pain. I see the doctor on Thursday, and will talk to him. Is there anything I can do? Is it me, or is it really WEIRD that the Doc's are OK with me having a dislocated jaw? Guest guest
I think it's wierd. You went through all this to have the perfect bite, and it's very important that you heal perfectly. My jaw was perfect coming out of surgery, but sometime by the next afternoon it had slipped out of place. My doctor was very distressed about it. He tried to pull it back into place with rubber bands over the weekend, and first thing Monday morning he knocked me out and relocated my jaw. His assistants told me that he fretted over me all weekend, and he didn't deny it. I don't know if the joint was actually dislocated or what it was, but my lower teeth would no longer go into the splint, but jutted out in front of it. My OS wanted that fixed before I healed that way. I would definitely persist at your next doctor appointment and make sure that you get a satisfying answer or you don't leave his office. If your jaw isn't properly in its socket, then the muscles will heal around the dislocated joint. I had that happen in my hand. I dislocated a carpal, wasn't properly diagnosed, and by the time it was caught the tendons had healed holding the bone in the wrong place. Now it won't go back and stay back. But I'm talking about a matter of two years, not two days or even two weeks. I wouldn't freak out about being dislocated until Thursday, but I sure wouldn't let him blow me off then. Guest guest
Jaw dislocated? That's definitely whack! Be sure to get an answer on that. Question - you're eating already???? Your OS said it was ok to chew? > > Thus far, the recovery has gone really well, though I have, not > > surprisingly, had a tough time eating. > > > > Aside from that, all was going well until last night, when I > started > > to hear my left jaw-joint grinding. Guest guest
Sharp, piercing pain plus bone grinding sound = CALL YOUR SURGEON and get in to see him. Don't let him ignore you. Insist that you'd like to see him sooner as this doesn't seem normal. Question him more about that dislocated jaw. It doesn't sound good to me. > Thus far, the recovery has gone really well, though I have, not > surprisingly, had a tough time eating. > > Aside from that, all was going well until last night, when I started > to hear my left jaw-joint grinding.
