Guest guest
Hey Everybody, For those who have had their surgeries already, and if you are there yet, would you let me know how long approximately, it took you to get to fairly intelligible and comfortable speech? I am NOT rushing things, but am curious about that in regards to my infant, my job and my normal high rate of speech! I also wonder, should i be resting my jaws now from speech or working them? The doc did not say, but i can tell you this. when it is time for my next pain pill, my face is STIFF and tired. i don;t think i am overtalking now, but am wondering what you all have experienced. Thanks,
Guest guest
I don't know about comfortable, that word really isn't in my vocabulary right now, but I suppose my speech is intelligible. This is day 19. My normal work day doesn't require me to do a lot of talking. However later today I have to give a presentation that will take about 1 hour. I am not sure if my mouth will be able to make it all the way through without getting tired. I'm hoping everyone will look at my slides rather than my rubber bands. Fortunately we're all engineers here so it's not a beauty contest if you know what I mean. Anyway to answer your question your speech will be fine after they un-band you or un-wire you. If you can open your mouth, your speech will be ok. People will be saying, " you sound great, " because they're expecting you to be a verbal wreck but really it's not that bad. However, comfortable is a whole different question... Guest guest
I'm at Day 15. My speech isn't yet 100% sounding. But it does sound more normal every day. If I talk for a really long time I need to shut up and give it a rest. > > Hey Everybody, > > > > For those who have had their surgeries already, and if you are > there > > yet, would you let me know how long approximately, it took you to > > get to fairly intelligible and comfortable speech? Guest guest
I had the splint wired in, and until that point, my speech was understandable, if my friends worked at it. I thpoke like Thylvetheter the Cat. Besides that, my surgeon REALLY did not want me to talk. My husband said he had no problems understanding me. But then he said he couldn't see the braces, anyhow. (Nope. He wasn't denying reality; he was very supportive. He just wasn't bothered by any of the glop.) Do ask your surgeon, or his office assistant, whether you should be trying to talk, or limiting it. Some docs want you to have the exercise. Mine did not. And I know Fiddly became very swollen after overdoing. I felt myself stiffer and swollen when I talked too much, but I don't think anybody else noticed it. I think that after the splint came out, at 7 weeks, things got much better in a hurry, from that standpoint. Probably not what you wanted to hear. And I think it goes rapidly after that, and that some others bounced back much more quickly. Guest guest
" Thpoke like Thylvester " !!!! Ha, ha, ha. have to luv it! I am a fifth grade teacher and one of my fellow workers suggested that i make tapes to play to Grace. Imagine: " Hi little peachy queen, hi baby girl... " I could not bring myself to do it. I understand your husband's glop avoidance. I am wondering if this certain stuff below my lower teeth are the stitches doing their thing. I am assuming. Have a good night. Off to watch my first movie. > > Hey Everybody, > > > > For those who have had their surgeries already, and if you are > there > > yet, would you let me know how long approximately, it took you to > > get to fairly intelligible and comfortable speech?
