I'm not here to criticize your surgeon, nor your putative surgeon.

My guy had done more than 1700 before he got to me, on June 26, 2002.

I know he does more than one a week -- I think three a week in one

hospital, maybe more. (Not including vacations or whatever.) And he

may work in other hospitals, too -- I dunno.) Ask your guy how many a

week, and how recently!

The initial appointment may well take a while to schedule, and yes, I

think your man's academic credentials speak well for him.

I'll bet he'll be more available once he gets to know you, and what's

going on.

My surgeon does consults three days a week, and was lavish with his

time. I reckon that's why it took me a month to get in, although he's

worked with my ortho for many years.

The one to tell about the delays is the person who answers at the

SURGEON's office, that you're getting bugged by your work people.

That's where the clot seems to lie. I was soooo frustrated when told

to wait a month -- although I had been told, and I'm sure they knew,

that it would be well over a year before I was ready for surgery. I

begged for any cancellation; didn't get one; suspect that he and his

staff gave those to folks they knew were closer.

I hope you get in quickly, find him most excellent, and that the two

of you have a rapport. If not -- hey, there are other surgeons!

Meantime, why not do the road trip with your buds anyhow? Then

they'll know how to find the way to your door to be helpful, when

you're post op. Or are we dealing with Animal House types here? In

which case, scratch the above suggestion...

> Well, I never have doubted the qualifications of this guy, he must

be one of the best or he wouldnt be dean of dentistry at one of the

top med schools in Canada, and my ortho is a lecturer there too! I

did get a call back from his office re: scheduling when I left a

messege, and there is a number on his machine for emergancies, but

its hard trying to get this initial appointment. I am going to be

sure to discuss his availability when I finally do meet with him.

The hting is, apparently he is so busy that he only does one day a

momnth of consultations the rest he is busy with university and

surgeries ( he does 128 a year, I think on aveerege) - does this

number sound right??????? Just so frustrating, work is bugging em

wanting to know when I need my time off, I am bugging the poor

reseptionist at my orthos in Halifax (she knows me now even before I

say anything..lol) and my friends are bugging me because they want

to go with me for the raod trip when I goto Halifax for my

> appointment, (while there, why not make a week of it - weird being

there and not being at university)

Kev, are you trying to schedule your first appointment with the OS?

If so, 1 month is pretty good :). I had to wait 2 months for my

first appointment, and I also called around other docs to see if

anyone had shorter wait - no such luck. They were all scheduling

approximately 2 months in advance. I think that usually once you're

an established patient, it will be easier to schedule appointments.
