Guest guest
I am considering having a jaw implant {MEDPOR} insterted. My doctor mentioned that there is a percentage of implants that lead to infection. Can anyone share there own individual experiences with having an implant put in along the jawline? Guest guest
Hi , I've never heard of this sort of thing before, and I've been here a few years. There are a few members who have had chin and/or cheek implants. Some are happy with them, others not. There's also a member here who's had distraction osteogenesis on the lower jaw which involves installing some hardware to advance the lower jaw (with a turnkey). Has your doc mentioned that as a possible alternative? I'm wondering exactly what your skeletal problem is. Even the screws & plates that are used to fix the jaws cause problems for some members (loose screws, broken plates causing infection) and they have to have them removed post-op (which is usually not as major a procedure as the original operation since the bones will have healed). What does your doc say they will do if there is infection? > I am considering having a jaw implant {MEDPOR} insterted. Guest guest
Hey , Jaw implants are used often by plastic surgeon for facial deformities. In my case, I had a class III malocclusion, then had upper widened and moved forward, lower moved back and genio. Unfortunately, my right condyle has suffered bone loss and as a result after healing from ortho surgery everything has not settled evenly. I had some resorption on the right lower mandible and one option the Dr. mention is to have an implant placed there to even things out. It's a complex case but he is an excellent doctor with a great deal of experience. If you hear of anything let me know... > > I am considering having a jaw implant {MEDPOR} insterted. Guest guest
Well, there may be others here who can help on the topic of condyle bone loss, I haven't got much knowledge here, other than my left one was wearing down and I'm really glad the surgery corrected that. My dentist checked for jaw opening issues yesterday, no clicks, no pops, everything lined up correctly. I told him I'd oiled the joints before I came in : ) Experience sure counts - sounds like you're in the right hands anyway. > > > I am considering having a jaw implant {MEDPOR} insterted.
