Guest guest
Hi, I am Ann the care giver for my husband Al. He started having symptoms around 1988 or 1989. It took until 1995 to get a diagnosis. We are now going to our second neurologist, he really seems to be keeping him on his feet and going. The medication that he is on is Sinemet 10/100-one tablet 3 times daily. Florineff 0.1mg 2 at breakfast and 2 at lunch with salt tablets, Mirapex 0.25mg 3 daily, Amantadine 100mg 2 daily, Sinemet 25/100 at bedtime. Cranberry fruit pills 3 daily, stool softener. He takes Milk of Magnesia every other day. He also uses a condom catheter at bed time. His B/P is also very low, I sometimes cannot get a reading. I have had it 42/23 and he was still on his feet walking. I don't know how. Ann from Soddy,TN
Guest guest
Dear : You did not mention in your note whether Warren's doctors have ever tried giving him Aricept for his dementia. My husband, Ken, was diagnosed for ten years with Parkinson's, but the diagnosis was changed to Shy-Drager Syndrome when he kept passing out when he stood and his BP would drop to unmeasurable and would rise to 220/110 every time he laid flat. He had most of the other symptoms of MSA, but he had dreadful Dementia. I finally talked his Neurologist into trying Aricept, and it had a miraculous effect on him. His memory deficits and his intense Paranoia disappeared, and when he had small hallucinations he accepted our statements that they were not real. I tell you this because his brain autopsy showed that he did not have MSA. He had Parkinson's Disease and Diffuse Lewy Body Disease which according to the literature often responds miraculously to Aricept as it did with Ken. This might be worth discussing with your doctor. I know it made a great difference to both Ken and to me. The Dementia was the hardest part for me to accept. Barbara
Guest guest
Belinda: I am not a doctor, and your question is one a doctor would have to answer. however, I do know that Aricept was developed for early symptoms of Alzheimers. Ken's dementia was unlike Alzheimers and it was quite advanced when Aricept was put on the market, and it worked extremely well for him. The only side effect we ever noticed for him was that it helped his constipation(diarhea is one of the listed side effects) and that was a blessing. Guest guest
Dear Anne, I am caregiver of my husband Warren. I think we have exchanged letters before, I know I know your name. Warren's bp is undercontrol now but his dementia has really gone off track. Since he's been in the nursing home it has gone from small to extremely large. He has hallucinations, bad dreams, nightand day mixed up, know me most of the time but goes off on something he hears until I can calm him down. He is in wheel chair, feet swollen snd stiff, has hard time even standing. He shakes so much they have him on sinemet, which seems to calm it down most of the time. When they increased it his dementia became intolerable for everyone, became combative (which he never was). I have been investigating Lewy Body dementia, which I know can't be diagnosed until after death, but the symptoms they have shown fit him to a tee. The article I read did mention that they are finding signs of it in both Parkinsons and MSA. Take care, S Medications > Hi, I am Ann the care giver for my husband Al.
