Guest guest
Hi, i am feeling somewhat anxious about seeing my OS tomorrow and the condition that i feel my mouth is in. I am usually a 7x a day brusher, prior to all this, so this is killing me. It will be one week from surgery date, first post appt. I have been rinsing after each meal and snack, also brushing teeth i can get to. I have only minimal feeling in roof of mouth, but that feels gross. My tongue feels gross. I am banded with 5 bands, 3 right, two left, and am JUST able to ge a spoon in for yogurt, etc. I also have been rinsing with salt water. I have been sort of waiting to see " chunks " of stuff come out as i rinse, but as aggressive as i want to be with simple rinsing, it is hard due to the numbness/swelling. Can someone give me some assurance on that whole first post op visit and what to expect in regards to my mouth hygiene? i also worry about him pulling my lips this way and that to see how the bite is, he kind of did this in the hospital, but either i was more numb, or i can feel it more now and it's not comfortable. THANKS SO MUCH,
Guest guest
I wouldn't worry about the hygiene, if you're rinsing and brushing as well as you can, then I'm sure your OS has seen worse. I wasn't too aggressive with the brushing because there was so much swelling inside. Also, I wanted to give my lips a chance to heal. They were sore and cracked and so I didn't want to be pulling them around the first week. I basically just rinsed, and maybe brushed the front teeth a little bit. Of course, I'm not a 7x per day brusher (yikes). By the time I had my first appointment with the OS, (day 5) my lips were in decent shape. He'll probably pull your lips around a little bit to see in there, but if it hurts, just tell him. I won't be that bad. Guest guest
If you haven't seen your OS since the surgery, he may do x-rays. Other than that he will just look around and see how you are doing. If it is very dirty, he may clean your mouth out. I know I was worried and had my husband call him about brushing and how dirty my mouth felt. I had white film all over my teeth.... yuck! Anyway, he said that to do as best as I could and if it looked bad, they would clean it out when I came in. ~Cathy seeing OS tomorrow, cleaning mouth Hi, i am feeling somewhat anxious about seeing my OS tomorrow and the condition that i feel my mouth is in. Guest guest
Hi Cathy, They did xrays in the hospital the day after the surgery. the OS already told me that he can't wait for me to see them. 25 screws! I can't wait! that was not a fun experience going down to xray with two geezer volunteers bumping me along the way. i am sure they cuold not help it, but it was for sure one of the more unpleasant experiences of the whole deal. that and getting up off the xray table, i had to have 2 people help me as my head felt so massive, i couldn;'t lift it! > If you haven't seen your OS since the surgery, he may do x-rays. Guest guest
, My OS wanted me to brush from day one as much as I could. The baby toothbrush was recommended just from a size standpoint. With the first surgery, I could get to everything from day one, so no problems. Now, I can only open about a finger's width, so I'm with you on the toungue deal. I even managed to floss the night before surgery two. But the one thing my OS told me to rinse with was a 50/50 mix of Hydrogen Peroxide and water. It breaks up any clumps of dried blood and gets in the cracks and cleans out the nasties.
