Guest guest
Hi all, On this very day, last month, I was having my orthognatic surgery. It's been a month, already. To this day, I still can't tell if it was worth it or not. I'm depressive because of the lack of " real " food and real activities. But this is going to change in the upcomming days. Yesterday, I saw my surgeon. I told her I was getting a little depressed of not eating what I like (which is not junk food, rather not cooked vegetables, hard crust bread, etc). She agreed to let me try medium soft food (toast with peanut butter, for example). I think she did that because I was turning mad, slowly ;-) The increase in food I like will permit me to have more energy, and in return, to enjoy more activities. That's why I believe my mental state will get better in a few days. There is just that many days someone can go on without real sustaining food. I don't say Ensure and pureed food aren't good, it just doesn't feel like filling my stomach. YMMV... I've been complaining about my right cheek's swelling not decreasing, for the past two weeks. In all occasions, it was put on the general swelling. Well, it appears I might have an infection. Lucky me I insisted to get it checked, and re-checked. I'm on medication since yesterday, and it's hard on the stomach. On the good news front, I was permitted to remove my rubber bands 3 hours at a time, at each meal. At first, I told her I'm eating 7 times a day (hypogly- cemia, you need to eat less, but more often)... So I figured, 7 times x 3 hours equals 21 hours a day.. COOL! Then, she added, " let's assume a regular 3 meals per days, shall we..? " - you can't always win! Generally speaking, the swelling in my face hasn't decreased since 12 days. For this reason, I'm asked to put hot towels on my face, several times a day, and to massage the swollen areas also, several times per day. I've uploaded a new set of pictures at the beginning of this week : http://www.pbase.com/carbone/surgery My diction is a little better, not to say it's back to where it was before the surgery. I'm about 40% there. I'm feeling behind everyone on this. It's true that I usually judge myself too severely. Finally, my mouth opens at more than 2 fingers, but she decided it's not enough, so I have to force my mouth open, with increased pressure on the jaws. Next step, in 3 weeks, is to use some piece of equipment to force my mouth open. It is said to be painful, and that patients usually try to avoid it. I'll report back in 3 weeks on that.. ;-) The rest is business as usual. Oh, she did insist on the fact that I could, if I wanted, call the ortho to continue the treatment. Do I want this? Haven't I suffered enough already? Is he my friend? Do I wish him to become my friend? How much is he paying me to experiment on my mouth? ;-) Seriously, he's off today, but I'm going to call him on Monday morning. I might just let him have a look at my mouth, nothing more.
