Got back Monday night from my trip to the UK. I flew in and out of Glasgow

and stayed with friends just outside the city in a lovely ish village

in the countryside. They took me on several day trips around the area to

the north of Glasgow. The scenery was just gorgeous and the weather was

quite good with many warm sunny days. My friends also treated me to a

special trip down to the Yorkshire Dales region of Northeastern England so I

could visit the Herriot museum, it was well worth the trip and was a

special highlight for me as I am a big fan of his books and the TV series.

The scenery there was spectacular as well as the hills were covered in

purple heather in full bloom. I don't have any pictures developed yet but

here are some websites that hit the high points of my trip.

Hugs,

Pam

Loch Lomond

http://www.lomondshores.com/

We saw the IMAX film " Legend of the Loch " and had lunch in the observation

tower overlooking Loch Lomond.

The Wallace Monument (Braveheart)

http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/stirling/wallace/

I climbed to the top of the Wallace Monument for a spectacular 360 degree

view of the area. This was a gorgeous day.

Stirling Castle

http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/stirling/stirlingcastle/

The castle is perched on a hill which makes for a stunning view as you drive

into the area. Inside the castle there were several weavers working on

recreating a set of midieval tapestries which will take them 10 years to

complete. The original tapestries are in New York in the Metropolitan

Museum of Art.

Hadrian's Wall

http://www.hadrians-wall.org/

We stopped beside the wall for a picnic on the way to Yorkshire. Amazing

how old this wall is (built around 122 AD) and it is still standing!

The World of Herriot

http://www.worldofjamesherriot.org/

We spent nearly two hours in the museum which exceeded all of our

expectations. They've done an amazing job with the exhibits.

St. 's Church

http://www.thirsk.org.uk/stmaryt1.html

The church was actually closed that day as they were preparing an exhibit of

historic wedding gowns for the next day. The caretaker let us in though

when he found out we were from Canada and gave us a special tour and we got

to see some of the gowns as well.

Rievaulx Abbey

http://www.theheritagetrail.co.uk/abbeys/rievaulx_abbey.htm

This was such a peaceful place to visit and the ruins were breathtaking.

Bamburgh Castle

http://www.bamburghcastle.com/

A huge castle on a hill with waves crashing below on the shore... I never

knew such places existed.. spectacular!

A well deserved trip for you. Your email makes the trip sound like a dream. I am a fan of Herriot also being raised on a farm, I could associate with many of the things he wrote in his books

Glad to have you back
