Guest guest
Hello ph: Some of the way's that you can communicate is if she can write she can use a note pad to write what she needs if not , use cards that have pictures of things that she may need. Bath , drinks, food and etc. Something like flash cards . You can work something out with this she can blink once for yes and twice for no or point to the picture that she needs. Some of the other's here may have some other things that will also work for you. this is just a few things for now. You will find what works best for you. Take Care Vera ******************* H i, my name is ph and I am Monik'a husband.. Monika was diagnosed with SD in April of 2000 , at agee 55. My wife was a pharmaceutical representative but inthe past two years has lost ability to walk , has very little movement in her arms or legs. We have tried, Sinetmet, amantidine, selegeline. Mariplex. but done have helped her. Her new neurologist is now trying Requip. Her voice has become a real problem, At first, her speech was slurred . She has been to a speech therapist who gave her some voice and breathing excercizes but her voice keeps getting weaker, and in a few weeks, I'm afraid it will be totally gone. How do I prepare for this? Is there any way for her to communicate after her voice is gone.? I can't imagine what it must be like for someone not to be able to communicate what their feeling or thinking or need. I've been up most nights now worrying about this , God bless us all, patients caretakers, families and friends who are living in this hell called MSA. Guest guest
It is late , but I saw ur posting. My husband and I just came back from paris. i sleep many days. He went to the Math conference. It was a nice rest! I slept , and he kept coming back and checking on me, and giving me meds, and my fluids. I know it was risky, but we needed time and it was my lift long dream to see the Eiffel tower. Now, the communication difficulty.... there are times of the day I just shut down. Can't talk fast enough and people can't hear me. I made a 5 X 7 communication card many years ago. One of the pics is a wheelchair. My husband never liked the communication card, until this early AM when he needed the wheelchair for me at the airport. I know it took alot of courage for my husband to ask for that communication card, and appreciate people taking the time to look at the card and help us. I must have looked really bad because they took me behind the business check in counter to wait for the wheelchair. My husband holds the card and says what he thinks I want to say or sometimes I can look and he points. The board is covered with Kodak 5 X7 inch hard plastic covers. The covers are at the grocery store by the film usually. Precut, easy, and fast. Contact paper will do just fine though. No worries. nancy m. monika9671@... wrote: > > thanks .monika can't write anymore so we'll work on using the flash > cards. > If you do not wish to belong to shydrager, you may > unsubscribe by sending a blank email to > > shydrager-unsubscribe > >
Guest guest
, I'm so glad to hear that you made it to Paris! Isn't it a beautiful city? And in spite of what some people say, I think the people are quite nice and helpful. Thanks for sharing your communication card idea. I think we may try that one soon, as Rob is having more and more trouble speaking loudly enough to be heard. It would certainly come in handy to have one in my purse. Welcome back! Guest guest
Dear - You did it! You made it to Paris and back home safely, good for you. Paris is such a wonderful city. I am so glad you got to see the Eiffel Tower as no pictures of Paris can do the city justice, you must go there to feel its magic. The cards sound like a great idea especially for use in a foreign country. Rest up and then share some more about your trip with us.
