Guest guest
I have my surgery on July 12 - just a week and a day from now. I am just now starting to really think about the surgery, though. I've been working on a political campaign all summer and this whole surgery mess is just NOT something I wanted to be dealing with and thus haven't really been thinking about. I've been told it's a fairly easy surgery, easier than wisdom teeth - and my wisdom teeth extraction was SO easy. I was even thinking about going out of town just TWO WEEKS after my surgery. Now I'm reading and thinking more about it and I must have been nuts. How much time do you think I will need away from work? I am having surgery to move my upper jaw forward, although I am right on " the bubble " and they may have to move my lower jaw back just a little bit, but they won't make that decision until during surgery. They told me I would be in the hospital for one night if it's just the upper jaw, two nights if it's both. Is that what other people experienced? I don't even really know what to do to prepare for the recovery. Will I be too sick/tired to read a book or do anything? Any advice or thoughts would be most appreciated. Guest guest
I'm a high energy person and thought the same - go back to normal work after two weeks (I had upper/lower/genio, and an easy recovery). I ended up taking 5 weeks off work - surgeon approved up to 6-8 weeks " since that's how long it takes the bone to properly heal " and insurance company approved 6 weeks. I had to go back because of financial reporting deadlines - no one could be trained to do this job. You can find lots of info on prep for your surgery on the info website I set up at http://www.geocities.com/orthognathicinfo/ check out PERSONAL SURGERY EXPERIENCES (including mine) and also SURGERY FAQs and RECOVERY FAQs. Get your supplies in order now, because you'll be too pooped to think about this post-op. Make sure you have someone to take care of you for the first few days, make sure you get proper nutrition, take your meds on time, tell you that you look mahvellous, etc etc. Don't under-estimate the amount of time it takes to recover from this. It's major surgery after all. > I have my surgery on July 12 - just a week and a day from now. I am > just now starting to really think about the surgery, though.
