Belinda,

OSA is Obstructive Sleep Apnea. What basically happens

is that the CPAP (Continuos Positive Air Pressure)

device forces air through my nose down my windpipe and

into my lungs. In my case according to the sleep

specialist, without it I would eventually strain and

cause damage to my heart. I also understand that not

treating OSA can lead to inadequate oxygen levels in

your body which would be a further complication on the

problems faced by people with MSA and related

illnesses. I am not sure that everyone with MSA or

related disorders experiences OSA, but I have

certainly seen plenty of posts about it. Oddly enough,

sometimes when I first put the machine and mask on at

night even on full air flow, I feel like I am

struggling for breath and I have to take it off again

and try again a bit later.

Hope this information is of some help.

Regards
