Guest guest
Hey guys, I'm now 6 days post op (upper and lower moved) and things are moving right along. Since my facial movements have been coming back however, I now have this sharp pain in my upper lip when I move it a certain way. It feels like a little stab every time I say certain words or make movements.. I would tell my dad, but he'll just say " Don't move it that way. " Is this normal? Is it part of the nerves reattaching themselves or something? I'm getting kinda freaked about it. Any suggestions?
Guest guest
I have it too (post op 18 days) but it's my lower lip. I believe it is the nerves healing. > Hey guys, > I'm now 6 days post op (upper and lower moved) and things are moving > right along. Guest guest
Well, I had a similar problem, but it turned out to be my nerves recovering and feeling my upper lip getting snagged on those lovely twisted wire surgical hooks that my surgeon installed during the op (the hooks my ortho put on weren't exactly where my surgeon liked them). I chose my words and lip movements VERY carefully after I discovered that. It did happen sometime in the first week, I remember, because I could barely lift my lip up to see what was in there (lips reminding me of their ordeal in the OR). Glad to see it was just the hook. > Hey guys, > I'm now 6 days post op (upper and lower moved) and things are moving > right along. Guest guest
For me it was one of the wires (to close the wound) that hit my gum back (it was like curled towards itself). After seven days, my surgeon removed them all. Also, even if they're all gone now, I will feel a sharp pain, every now and then, sometimes when I move, sometimes when I do nothing. I've asked my surgeon and it's completely normal, it's nerves reactivating themselves. If you don't feel a bump, if you don't see blood (a lot of it) running out, if you're not running any fever, I'd say there's no cause for concern for now. You could, however, call the surgeon's office. He / she will probably be able to reassure you over the phone in a few minutes (and probably... free of charge!) Guest guest
, Maybe its not a nerve thing at all. You could have a couple tight stitches up there that get pulled on when you move your lip. Since its only 6 days they could even be hidden by swelling. Its possible-- I had a couple stitches that hurt when I moved certain ways. > Hey guys, > I'm now 6 days post op (upper and lower moved) and things are moving > right along.
