Surgery in Costa Rica?

Hi all,

I'm new here (though I did pop in a year or two back briefly).

I'm now 56 years old and went through weight loss surgery a year ago

so now I'm trying to find the money and courage to do jaw surgery.

My worthless medical insurance won't pay so at least I don't have to

face the grief and heartache of trying to get them to pay.

I wonder if anyone knows of anyone who had this surgery done in Costa

Rica? I had a good experience with weight loss surgery in Mexico

(Tijuana) at half the price of California so I suppose I'm more

adventurous than most. Here is the Costs Rica web site I found but I

doubt I would be brave enough to try them unless I can find some

satisfied patients?

http://www.arrivacostarica.com/orthognathic_doctor.htm

thanks,

Holly

Holly,

I don't know about this place in Costa Rica, but if you're willing

to fly to Costa Rica, you might be willing to fly a little further

to Venezuela. I had my surgery done there and I'm very happy with

the way it's gone. I had my surgery almost 3 weeks ago. My insurance

paid for it, but if I would have had to pay for it myself, I would

have had to pay 5000 USD. This is for lower advancement, SARPE and

chin reduction all included. Let me know if you're interested in

more info!

Last time I recall clicking on any links to Costa Rica surgery sites,

it was just a bunch of bogus links, so I'm not buying it this time,

even though it just might be legit. Of course, I've had my surgery

and don't need to shop for it. But I'd warn others against surfing

links from members we don't know anything about.

I was going to mention aruwoman's surgery in Venezuela, but I see

she's mentioned it. There was also a member who went to India for her

surgery as well, you could try searching the archives.

Why don't you tell us what happened with your insurance company,

Holly? If they paid for your weight loss surgery, why not

orthognathic surgery - it's usually medically necessary. There's

plenty of peope here who have had rough dealings with their insurance

companies and who could help.

I will second 's " questionning " ... That person isn't listed in the

member's area. The link appears valid, if you're actually shopping

for surgeries (it's like a supermarket of surgeries...).

Still, the fact that I can't find this person in the group's members list

is odd.

Surf with caution ;-)

Yes, Nathalie, I'd very much like more information. Thank you.

Did you rely on referrals from prior satifsfied patients or how did

you research the surgeon?

Unfortunately the system isn't letting me privmail this response to

you so I'll have to post it to the group.

You may either respond in the group or email me at

hhblacka@...

de-Yahooed that's:

hhblack AT pacbell DOT net

and to answer someone's else's query, my insurance would not pay for

weight loss surgery a year ago, that's why I went to Tijuana. USD

9000 for weight loss surgery that would have been twice that in San

Francisco. It was a good experience, they have been doing Adjustable

Gastric Band in Mexico for about 12 years, about 3 years in USA, only

2 years when I had mine. Anyway, sorry for digressing, the relevant

point is that I'm a self-pay, no getting around that so I'm looking

for good value for money and willing to travel overseas if

necessary. But only to a surgeon with a track record that I can

actually verify (I'm not easily duped)
