Guest guest
I don't know if you remember the couple that I went and saw a few week's ago, but I got a call from her last night. One thing she wanted was to tell me she heard from Dr. Shults and that wouldn't beable to be in the research study because it's to hard to move him to Dr. Shults. Also another thing she wanted me to know, was that she got a letter on the MSA Video Doc and they said they will be letting her know when and where it can be seen. There was also one other thing that she wanted to know about. Her husband is having a hard time swallowing now and things get stuck in the mouth. She wanted to know what some of you as caregivers do in a matter like this? what is best? Peg tube or suction machine, etc? Anything that you can tell her, I will print and take to her next week so that she can read it and talk to her husband doctor about it. thank you for your help. Guest guest
Vera, Tell her not to fool around, get her husband to the doctor and get a swallowing study done NOW! The study will alert them as what is best for the patient - speech therapy, PEG, etc are options as well as changing food consistancy. BUT getting things stuck in the mouth - sounds like he needs speech therapy as his tongue is getting lazy. Guest guest
Vera, Currently, we are using a suction machine. I know the implanted tube comes next. Speedy has also had a couple of rounds of speech therapy which included help in learning how to swallow better. This therapy can be outside the home or home health with doctor's prescription. We have learned he has more trouble swallowing thin liquids. Marilyn
