Guest guest
Hi Bill: It's not easy for Rita to get to the doctor. She is his only caregiver. She did have a man that would come and help her get him to the doctor as doesn't walk, but when she had one appointment to take and the guy didn't show up, she had to try and get him to the doctors on her own. Now they send out a nurse every other week to her. The nurse comes tomorrow, so I talked to Rita about telling her what is going on. Also printed your note to give to her. Thank you for the help. Take Care Vera *********************** Vera, Tell her not to fool around, get her husband to the doctor and get a swallowing study done NOW! The study will alert them as what is best for the patient - speech therapy, PEG, etc are options as well as changing food consistancy. BUT getting things stuck in the mouth - sounds like he needs speech therapy as his tongue is getting lazy. Take care, Bill Werre
Guest guest
Vera: As you know, I did talk to Rita on the phone, and it was obvious that her husband is in last stages of MSA. I brought up Hospice as a possibility, but she was resistant to the idea. I think it is very hard for her to let anyone in to help her. As you remember, Hospice not only sent the Nurse three times a week, but they also arranged for the Doctor to visit in our home. I have lost Rita's telephone number so I can't call her again unless you send her number to me again. Also, the public transport system here in Orange County where she is will send a special wheelchair accessible bus to her house to transport anyone and an assistant to the doctor. She just has to have her doctor or nurse make the referral. i am sorry not to be with the rest of you today, but I am looking forward to my granddaughter's Birthday party this afternoon. love, Barbara
