Guest guest
Dear I had a massive staph infection last September. My PCP sent me to a dermatologist who did two biopsies which confirmed it was staph. He put me on Clindamycin as I am allergic to keflex which was his first choice. It had not improved in a week so he added more prednisone. I was on 20mgms and he increased it to 60mgm and continued the clindamycin. He did a countdown on the pred very slowly and I was on the clindamycin for a month. It took 3 months to completely clear up. I had it all over both my legs and arms. It hurt and itched at the same time. He really didn't know what caused it, but wondered if my immune system was so suppressed from the pred, methotrexate, arava, and plaquinil that the staph that normally is present on our skin somehow got out of control. The other possibility was that since I'm a nurse and work with patients that I may have contracted it from one of them. He really doesn't know what caused it for sure. Didn't think it was from the RP. hope this helps-Sue Park Re: Staph infections > Hi everyone... Kathleen Loch called today and needed some help... Guest guest
Hi , Sorry to hear about Kathleen. Hope she gets to feeling better real fast. Did they find this with a throat culture? If she is on an immune suppresant that could be a factor. Hope they get her on some meds that will take care of the infection. She will be in my thoughts and prayers and keep us posted. Guest guest
Dear Sue, its Sue here. Have a question for you. I have had a rash for the last six months, majorily. Went to a dermy and after several ointments, which none helped I insisted on a biopsy. It came back as Perivascular Spongiotic Dermatitis. I still have some of the skin problems. Clearing up finally. Oh, they did a shave biopsy. Now I need to do more research and see if this could be staph. Back in October, before the rash I was very sick (also on Plaquinel which is known to cause skin reactions) and doctors said it was a virus and had to run its course. I do really need a specialist. Does anyone know if there is one around Chicago, as I'm in Wisconsin and can't find one here. I have no health insurance so need to cut to the chase.....Sue Marth
Guest guest
Dear Thanks so much for reponding back. You sure have been through alot too from your posts that I have read. I hope things are going better for you now. You have been through so much. Let me know how you are doing. Thank God the staph had cleared up but it was not soon enough. When I had it last year,it was so bad I couldn't fly back east for my mom's funeral. She died of Leukemia and she was fighting right to the end but she lost so much weight and was nothing but a skeleton in the last few months. I'm doing Ok now just more tired and achey. I've been working more helping out the internist I normally work for one day a week. He recently had low back extensive surgery and woke up from the surgery blind. It was and is really awful. I'm trying to help him as much as I can. I'm on methotrexate, plaquinil, arava and prednisone as well as prilosec, premarin, provera ,synthroid, atarax., flexeril, darvocet or tylenol with codeine for the pain as needed and miacalcin nasal spray. I use an advair inhaler when I flare and get wheezing, tight chested and loose my voice. I like this new inhaler because its a combination of serevent and a steroid so I only need to use one inhaler instead of two. Sorry I went on and on, much too wordy! More than you needed to know. Thanks though for writing back and caring that was really sweet of you. Let me know how you are doing, I care. Sue Park Re: Re: Staph infections > Sue, thanks for the info.... Guest guest
Hi, I don't know very much about staph infections, but I can tell you about my experience with rashes since moving here. Here I was sooo excited to move to New Mexico, totally forgetting I am allergic to the chlorine in the water. I cannot drink it, or wash in the water. I spent the first couple of months crying on my husband's shoulder saying I wanted to go back to Bermuda. Then I was on Pred for my eye, and I really wanted to go home, I had hives and a rash... everywhere.. and I mean everywhere.. To make a long story short, my husbands doctor is really into homeopathic options, and told me to try MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) lotion and see how it works. I could kiss the ground he walks on.. for me it worked wonders.. I ordered it at www.intohealth.com and within about a week my rash was sooo much better. They also have the lotion with apple and apricot at another website, I can't remember it, but I think a search would find it.They also have capsules you can take as well. The lotion is expensive, so I tend to only use it when I get the rash or know I have to take Pred. I hope that helps in anyway. le
