Guest guest
Hi , I contracted staph infection in my throat when I was on prednisone for an extended period. It felt like you had the flu but just a low grade temperature and strange boils in my throat. I was given two antiobiotics at the same time and still couldn't get rid of it. (I can't remember why they gave me two -- but they had grown the culture out and they felt it would be best to use both.) I remember being mad about being told to go home and wait for the test results. They were not sure what to give me. The two antiobiotics didn't get rid of it. I was retested and it came back positive again for staph. I was weaned to a lower dose of prednisone and given a third antibiotic which finally got rid of the infection. It was very stubborn. The next week my daughter came down with a milder case but she had a face rash as well. They put her on a four week antibiotic treatment to make sure we got rid of her throat infection and skin rash. I didn't know I had RP at the time and never asked that question about connection. Your immune system is a disabled with RP so I guess it would make sense. I was told at the time that the infection can become resistant to certain antibiotics and they were a bit worried about that situation with me. I remember that distinctively. If the 3rd antibiotic didn't work they were sending me off to an infection specialist. I had never heard of such a doctor but found out there was one at the hospital and asked a few nurse friends what they do. I guess they are who you go to when your infections become unmanageable. In other words out of control. If the infection gets out of control it can invade your entire body. Staph infection is one of those bugs that can get out of hand. I will keep Kathleen in my prayers for a speedy recovery and hope she can find the right doctor/meds to get well. Take care, Cheryl L. Guest guest
Cheryl, thank you so much for the info for Kathleen... I forwarded it on in case she's not reading the mail... We are all learning from this...I don't want any one to have it, but this is new to me too. Something I guess we should all watch out for... This group is so wonderful in responding to SOS's. LOL Thanks again. Have a nice weekend.. hugs
Guest guest
How do you know its a staph infection? I was diagnosed with a virus last October and havn't felt good since. They said it had to run its course. Maybe it was staph. Sue
