pain killer question- day 5 post op

I am taking " Acetaminophen with codeine elixir " for pain. I have to

take 5 tablespoon every 4 hours & even after that sometimes it does

not help. Has you doctor prescribed you longer lasting stronger

liquid pain med? Which one?

They make that 'elixir' in various strengths I believe.

I took something similar. The dosage on mine was two teaspoonfuls

(10 ml) every 4-5 hours. Obviously that's a lot less than what you

are taking (5 tablespoons?).

Just tell your doc the pain meds aren't enough. He should prescribe

you something stronger. There's something called Lortab elixir

which is acetaminophen/hydrocodone. I believe it is stronger than

the codeine elixir.

Another couple of things regarding pain meds -

Don't wait until you have pain to take the pain meds. Keep taking

them. Don't exceed the dosage but keep taking them. Every 4 hours

or whatever.

Also it takes like 30-60 minutes for the codeine to kick in.
