ICU after the surgery???

I have read in some of the messages that some people ended up in the

ICU for a day or two after the surgery. It sounded like nothing was

seriously wrong, they just went there for precaution. Is this the

norm? My OS didn't mention anything about ICU. I'm especially

concerned because I am most likely paying out of pocket, and a stint

in the ICU would probably make my surgery costlier. Does anyone know

under which circumstances you will end up there?

Thanks.

Irene.

Around here, it's mandatory for surgery lasting longer than 3 hours,

or involving the loss of a lot of blood (more than a simple cut in a leg,

for example).

I was in ICU for 24 hours. Until my vitals were normal and I could drink

water.

Thanks, everybody, for your asnwers. Looks like whether you get to

stay in the ICU depends on your doctor and hospital policies. From

what I know about ICUs around here, only very very sick people end up

in one. Hopefully, I will not need to be there!

> i went there for two days then went straight home....i only needed

to stay one day but there were no beds elsewhere....my OS said that i

would go there bc they knew what to watch for, had handled these kind

of surgeries before......good luck
