Guest guest
I pray that everything is good with everyone's family. I would like to get some feed back on medication. My Father is on Aricept (10mg), Florinef (10mg), Sudafed (for the low blood pressure) and Seroquel (50mg) at night. Is there anything else out there that I should research? Thanks to all, in advance for your help!
Guest guest
Hi , Are you sure it's Sudafed he's on? Isn't that the over the counter cold medicine? We've been warned in the past by MSA researchers that people with low blood pressure should not take cold medicines that contain ephidrine or pseudoephidrine. I believe Sudafed is in that category but you should check this. Guest guest
, Looking at your father's medication list, I notice that he is taking Sudafed for low blood pressure. Did the doctor recommend that? Generally MSA patients are told to avoid over-the-counter cold medications like Sudafed because they can cause blood pressure to go too high. Many patients take midodrine (also known as proamatine) as a short acting medication to raise blood pressure during the daytime hours when the patient is up. If your father's doctor recommended Sudafed don't change it, but do ask him about midodrine. Guest guest
: You are getting mail about using Sudafed to raise BP. It surely does, and it was used a lot before Midodrine became available. The problem was that it also is a decongestant, and that may or may not be desirable for your father. it can contribute to restlessness too. Midodrine is short acting and pretty controllable, but it is pretty expensive which is probably why your father's doctor suggested Sudafed which is available over-the-counter and as a generic. If it were me, I would ask the doctor about it, but I do know in the past, it was used for this purpose often. Barbara
