Guest guest
Hi everyone! Just had a couple of questions for all of those who have been through this surgery. I had braces when I was younger (12 or 13) which were supposed to correct the malocclusion - I have a class III underbite. After a couple of years, the orthodontist took off the braces, and told me that i'd have to have the orthognathic surgery to correct my bite. I never did anything about it since it wasn't affecting me too terribly bad... the surgery seemed worse than dealing with the problems. Now i'm seriously considering getting this done. It's such a nuissance to keep dealing with this. I grind my teeth, which I normally do when I feel like my teeth aren't lining up, plus I have TMJ issues on one side, not to mention the headaches. Has anyone else had this situation where you had braces several years prior to surgery? If so, how long did you have to wear the braces the second time around? Did the surgery improve or worsen your TMJ problems if you had any? Also, did your insurance cover the surgery? Just wondering what they consider 'medically necessary'. Thanks for your time!
