I noticed on an old message where someone had mentioned that their

voice had changed after surgery, it became lower with the

advancement of the lower jaw. I was wondering if anyone else had

this experience? And if anyone's voice got higher after having their

lower jaw set back? Has anyone noticed a different tone in their

voice overall?

Yes, I had voice change. My lower was advanced, upper raised, chin

shortened & moved forward.

My voice became a bit lower. I guess it's an improvement because I

thought it was kind of nasally and weak before. I can sing lower

notes now! (not that I sing well)

Not many people remarked on it, my husband didn't tell me for a

loooong time, I guess he thought it was due to the sore throat post-

op.

I don't think it's all that common, and depends on how much you have

done. My surgeon did say that my throat was constricted because of

the retrognathic lower jaw, so maybe moving it forward just freed up

my voicebox!

It must have been one of your messages I had read ~ I find that

really interesting! My lower jaw will be set back and my upper

advanced, I wonder if my voice will be a bit higher afterwards ~ I

find it's a little low right now, although I tend to speak lowly

since I am uncomfortable speaking in some situations. I also like

to sing and was curious as to how the tone of my voice might change

after this. I assume it can't get any worse Hahaha

Hey, don't expect any record producers to break your door down post-

op .. lol!

Seriously, it's always our expectations that get us into trouble. I

was hoping for a good fix, but always prepared to make lemonade in

case I got lemons.

I think its too early to tell for sure in my case, but my boyfriend

said I laugh a lot more like a girl now that I've had surgery. My

lower was set back and my upper advanced.

Also, I'm kinda jealous when I hear explainations that patients here

have recieved from thier doctors... My doctor doesn't go into detail

about anything and my ortho is the same. I have to pry it out of

them with knowledge I've already learned here or elsewhere on the

internet. Anywho, I'll write back more about voice changes when I

have more feeling in my lips. I think its a great subject as well.
