I had upper jaw surgery which consisted of lowering it because I was lacking the space between the teeth and nose (the rooth of my teeth ended up in the nose, almost). The hip procedure hurts like 4 times what the mouth surgery does. For the first week, I couldn't walk without a cane. I couldn't sit for too long, neither sleep on either side, stand up for long periods neither. Nightmare. After two weeks, things started to be better. Slightly. At the one month mark, though, the pain left for good. I can do the same activities I did before (I mean, the ones I'm permited to). It could have been an option (in fact, it was), but synthetic bones can only cover a certain lenght, and my surgeon required more than what it could provide. I was warned before the surgery that this could be the case. I was told I would knew it when I would woke up. Which I did :-) Ray
Guest guest
How are you feeling now? Has it been one month? Do you still have stitches on the roof of the top palate? Can you please enlightening me what exactly they did to your upper jaw? Thanks. > > Ray: > > Was implant an option for you, or did the doctor only suggested hip > > graft? > > > It could have been an option (in fact, it was), but synthetic > bones can only cover a certain lenght, and my surgeon required > more than what it could provide. I did not have palate expansion, so no stiches there. The stiches I had were removed 7 days after the surgery. My surgeon was less patient than me, and she decided it was time for them to go, even though they were disolvable... I'm still numb on 50% of my tongue, feeling has partially returned on my lower gums. So has it on my back teeth (both upper and lower). I am still totally numb on the right corner of my mouth (it's now to the point where I don't notice it until I touch it). The rest of my face is returning to normal. Left side of my chin is 80% normal, right side has some feeling returned (had none for a month). Upper lip back to 100%, lower lip on the left side is 100%, the other is part of the no feeling zone. Finally, the nose is almost 100% normal, except for the " separator " (don't know how to call it) from the tip to the base, still 90% numb. The swelling is almost all gone in my chin and left side. On the right side, I had an infection which prevented the swelling from going away. The infection is no more, but the swelling has remained (it's only been 3 days, so I'm not worry). That's about it!
