Guest guest
Hi everyone, I know we have spoken of sleep disturbances before so I hope you will be patient with me.As some of you will know I plan to go to England for Autonomic testing soon but my Respiratory Specialist has suggested I wait until we do some sleep studies...he explained that some sleep disturbances actually cause autonomic symptoms (tachycardia,sweating,OH)..... I always believed it was the autonomic dysfunction that caused the sleep problems. Has anyone got any advice re this ? I got the impression from the Doc that if we found the cause of my inability to sleep and addressed that ,my other symptoms might improve to the point where I would`nt need the Autonomic tests. Again I would be grateful for any comments.I might add that when on meds to help sleep and getting enough sleep I still had all my "autonomic symptoms" love to all, Marg Manson " B. Guest guest
Marg, I'm not an expert, but it seems like a chicken and egg thing. Both areas need to be addressed, and until they are it won't be clear if one is contributing to the other. In Rob's case, the sleep problems preceded the autonomic problems by several years and they were addressed independent of any other neurological issues. When he developed orthostatic hypotension it was the sleep neurologist who diagnosed him with MSA. So, my two cents worth is that both areas should be addressed but that I doubt that "fixing" one will completely eliminate the other. But that's just my opinion.
