Guest guest
Hi all! I have upper, lower, and palate expansion surgery on August 17th after over two years with braces. My upper is going out and my lower back.
Guest guest
What exactly are they doing with your upper palate expansion? Are you saying the upper jaw is lacking, and thus can't see your upper teeth? If so, is the doctor using a bone graft or an implant? - -- In orthognathicsurgerysupport , " tom_pooler2000 " wrote: > Hi all! Guest guest
Hi Tom, I'm having surgery in August too-on the 4th-upper/lower/optional genio (we're not sure yet-have pre-consultation with OS tomorrow)-have had the braces for 9 months and my ortho anticipates they should come off in March Connie > Hi all! Guest guest
Hay Tom Me, I'm 8/9 (woo-hoo!!) upper-up and out and over, genio and maybe lower--find out this friday...gulp! Mostly I am psyched to DO THIS!! And busy and tired trying to work and squeeze in the ortho, OS, perio, blood donations, pre-op, clearance apts and preparing... There's a lot you can do to help your body with planning, like extra vitamins and iron (if you're donating your own blood)...and I am starting to experiment with new recipes since I just don't really Dig the shakes--I like salt much more than sugar...all I have to figure out now is how to tube-up potato chips! When I go out of work, I will online at home...let's be sure to let each other (Connie and everyone else in Aug) know how it is-esp those tough to get to sleep nights we hear so much about in the beginning. jo > > Hi all! Guest guest
Can't tell you how to blend potato chips -- but how about potato soup? You can thin it with chicken or beef broth. Guest guest
Hi! I am also having my surgery August 4. Palate expansion and lower jaw moved back. I didn't know about donating your own blood. I guess I need to call my OS. I'm VERY ready to have this done but anxious at the same time. I teach preschool and we go back on Sept. 7. My own children start back August 19. Hope all will be well by then. It's nice to know there are a few of us having the surgery at the same time! Let's keep in touch! Mindy > > > Hi all! Guest guest
Yeah...that's cool that there are some people goin into this at the same time. It definitely makes me feel a little less nervous. August will be a great month for us!! hehe. Tom > > > > Hi all! I have upper, lower, and palate expansion surgery on > > > August > > > > 17th after over two years with braces. Guest guest
Hi Mindy, my co-August 4th cohort!:0) I don't have to donate any blood prior to surgery, It seems to depend on your surgeon/procedure etc. By alla ccounts I am pretty sure you'll be good by Spet 7-are you getting wired or banded? Guest guest
Hi, My surgery is on August 3rd (Lefort 1 upper advancement and lower setback). I will have had braces for 2 years next month. I have donated one unit of blood and I have one more to go. I will be wired shut for 6 weeks- but I am so happy to finally be shedding the freak face! Do you guys feel that way? Like you are really psyched for your surgery, no matter what the risks and pain we're facing, because the outcome will be so fantastic? Guest guest
Hi Meg, I am having a problem with my computer, so am posting a second reply to you! My surgery is August 4th, and yes, while I am a little nervous-to be expected-I am excited and have total confidence in the outcome. Guest guest
So glad to have someone write that they're PSYCHED! while still concerned, excited! I'm right with you...I am 8/9--throw yours on the calendar (left) we're all chatting--aug is a busy busy mth! got a few on the 4th and the 3rd too I think. then the 11th and more!! Sure, I am concerned that all goes well, but much more so, I am just hopeful--that's all I can do there and meanwhile I am like WOOOOOOO- HOOOOOOOOOO let's DO THIS!!! BRING IT ON! I really can't wait to be on the other side-I know some of this will suck--who cares! It's moments in time...nothing I can't get thru! And you too! I donated first time, first pt tues...and I felt pooped yesterday- sort of hungover--think that was mostly the dehydration...and today woke up feeling just better, more rested and thought--well DONE THAT! NEXT!!! keep on writing and woo-hooo right back at cha! Jo (ps-I am upper out over and up, genio and maybe lower...if so than 3wks goes to 6...but that's what I expected from day 1 so whatever! ) > Hi, > My surgery is on August 3rd (Lefort 1 upper advancement and lower > setback). Guest guest
Yeah I have heard about the sleepless nights but heard that the meds and elivating the head helps. My appts start on 8/4 with last visit to my Ortho for molds and x-rays at the imaging place. On 8/9 I go down to meet with my Dr and then all my pre-op stuff. I go back on 8/10 for my class where they tell you all you ever wanted to know about the surgery. The stuff I received says I can't lift anything over 5 pounds for 4 weeks after the surgery. Ugh. Then I receive a card in the mail from my Dermo saying I have my six month with him on the 12th. Busy busy! Then after the surgery on 8/17 I have to go back for my follow up appt with my Dr on 8/26. I received the zip and squeeze bags long ago and got a smoothy maker last month. Based on some other peoples experience here I also purchased a water pick. Yes it is good to know that there will be others to chat with who are having this done at the same time so we can chat. They are splitting my palate as it narrows in the back rather than what it should be doing, leaving not enough room for my tongue. Yes I have continued to have more and more problems talking and being understood the last few years so this should help that too! > > > Hi all! I have upper, lower, and palate expansion surgery on > > August > > > 17th after over two years with braces. My upper is going out and > > my > > > lower back. Guest guest
I'm having my surger on August 17th too! The only things I purchased were Boost and a bottle of V8 Splash Smoothies, and I got some slim fast from a lady at work. Good luck! Mindy > > > > Hi all! Guest guest
Mindy, I read that Carnation inst brkfst is almost as nutritous, but CHEAPER...think someone noted adding protein powder for more good stuff, but just an fyi.,....and remember nothing that we can't BLEND!!! jo > > > > > Hi all! Guest guest
Hi Mindy! Kaiser provided a very nice packet of information for me including smoothy recipies (with real food in them). Also if you haven't already check out some of the links here as they have some recipies also. > > > > > Hi all! Guest guest
I thought I would try some ZONE protein powder and see how that works. > > > > > > Hi all! Guest guest
Yeah...I have some stuff called Serious Mass that i've used before as a weight gainer...lots of calories and protein...tastes great...that's what i'll be livin off of. not too expensive either...30 bucks for a 12 pound bag. > > > > > > > Hi all! (how long does a 12 lb bag last? thanks!! - In orthognathicsurgerysupport , " Tom " wrote: > Yeah...I have some stuff called Serious Mass that i've used before as > a weight gainer...lots of calories and protein...tastes > great...that's what i'll be livin off of. not too expensive > either...30 bucks for a 12 pound bag. > > > > > > > > > > Hi all! Guest guest
it's made by optimum nutrition. compared to other protein powders i've used...it's definitely the best. i always add stuff to it to bump up the calories and protein (choc. syrup, ice cream, peanut butter). they recommend 2 scoops for a serving...but it's hard to finish 1 scoop...especially if ya add stuff to it. it'll last you a week or two...depending on how many servings you have a day. here's the link: http://store.yahoo.com/americasvitaminstore/serious- mass12lb.html > > > > > > > > > Hi all! Guest guest
Does it comes in something plain like vanilla then? Guest guest
it comes in vanilla, chocolate and strawberry(i'm not sure if that website carries all those flavors or not. but you can just do a search on yahoo or whatever for it. shopping.com is a good place to check...gives you like 10 websites who sell it at the lowest prices. i've only had the chocolate...so i'm not sure how the other two compare. but i'm sure they're good too. actually...i just ordered a bag of the vanilla for when i have my surgery...wanted to try something different:-) > > > > > > > > > > > Hi all! Guest guest
Well...that will be sorta tricky. I have no problem getting the time off of work. But what I'm really worried about is my fall semester starting up August 25th. That only leaves me 2 weeks before I have to get back to a full schedule. And it's not like work where I could just go in for half a day if I didn't feel quite back to normal yet. I have class from 9-9 on tues and thurs...yuck! Hopefully 2 weeks will be enough time. It's the earliest I could get the surgery...any earlier and my ortho wouldn't have felt that I was ready. But if I waited longer...I'd have to wait until Dec/Jan between semesters...didn't want to wait that long. I'll just hope for the best... :-) > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi all! Guest guest
Hay tom, so you're a full time student who also works then? as to work, sounds like you have that settled...as to school...get those professors on the phone asap...and if you can't get them live (summer is tough), then call the admin and ask if they have email or how you can get a letter to them... I was in school-college when I had an accident resulting in a broken jaw-2 places, and went out, had the surg, and was back in 1 week...mind you, I wasn't even 21 then and partof getting back was not to miss the fun either. I was going nuts on mom's couch-mind you...she was very helpful and what not...but I wanted to get back to normal asap. Dr said ok and so I went. Mom got through ok too but when I returned...my profs were already contacted to note that I was missing some time...and have to say that each of them were SO helpful, that when I felt too weak to go or wasn't up for a long day like your sched...we worked out a way to cover the materials and not attend the class. And this was (look out, here comes...) BEFORE THE INTERNET!!! yup. I have found that this surg takes many by surprise and most understand that this isn't a broken foot that means you'll hobble in late, but this is your life line. talking, eating....everything. But reach out soon so you have a chance, being the beginning of the semester-I wouldnt want any last n=minute, well then if you can't start now, don't! I think if you work it out now while YOU can then you've got a good chance, heck maybe they can even get you started now so you've got more time to take it on?! For me...I'm taking vaca-2wks...but am the only one here that does waht I do and when I am out, the pres will handle my desk...not so great...he's terrific, but doesn't know my clients like I do and has a vERY full plate already...so it's up to me to be sure as soon as I can to get to it amd make me some money...yup-commission driven here, so the heat is on...mostly I'm my own worst enemy-they are cool w/it, but I am freaking. oh well... ps-heard from ins...ABSOLUTELY NO on the genio...don't know why they said yes--hmm...no one does. but that's a big $3500 for me so I better go make some money! jo > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi all!
