Guest guest
Hi, I had upper jaw & chin done 9 weeks ago. Until now everything has gone pretty smoothly. However, the last couple of days I have had pain in my jaw joints - its not really bad just a dull nagging ache. Is this normal? Am only in elastics at night now could that be a factor? Guest guest
Call your surgeon and tell someone in his office, and ask how to relieve it, if it is possible to do so. Guest guest
I have this too. I have figured out that it is because I am clenching my teeth at night. I asked my OS about it, and told me to try to relax my jaw as much as I can. Is it worse at night? In the morning? When you are opening up too big? Try to figure these things out and call your OS. He will be able to give you better information for your particular case, but it helps if you can tell him something about it. ~Cathy Pain in jaw joints Hi, I had upper jaw & chin done 9 weeks ago. Guest guest
Cathy, you used a phrase in your note " opening up too big " . This is something i have been thinking about and wonder if the folks who are way ahead of me might be able to answer it. I tried opening my jaws the other day and it really hurt. i know i have read that folks have been able to open " one finger " or " two fingers " .... How longs does it take for us to be able to open wide with ease? I know the answer will vary, but i guess i am wondering also if the process along the way is painful. > I have this too. For 3 weeks, I was able to do about 2 fingers (some days a little less, others a little more). I'm at week 5 and now I can do almost 3 (again, some days more, other less). You have to keep trying, several times a day, this will " awake " your muscles. Ray
Guest guest
Thanks for your reply, Ray, but does it hurt to do what you are talking about? > > Cathy, you used a phrase in your note " opening up too big " . Guest guest
> > Thanks for your reply, Ray, but does it hurt to do what you are > talking about? > > It doesn't hurt as such. The muscles are simply stiff. What hurts is the tongue (I know, this sounds strange). I talked about that with my surgeon and she assures me it's quite ok. A swollen area is blocking something and my tongue hasn't returned to normal. As a result, when I stretch my mouth, my tongue hurts a little (but not much, I assure you) In my case, 3.5 fingers means a Happy Meal at Mc's... So you can be sure I'm motivated :-) Ray
Guest guest
Thanks. Its mainly 1st thing in the morning & in the evening. I have tried wearing elastics a little more today but not sure if it has helped. I think I have been clenching a lot. I am worried that if my teeth are not together all the time my bite will open up. I will speak to ortho on Monday - I will try to keep mouth relaxed as much as possible. Hope your pain goes soon. Thanks again. -- In orthognathicsurgerysupport , " Cathy " wrote: > I have this too. Guest guest
Hey, at 9 weeks I can still only open two fingers, and I have eaten a few Happy Meals! I don't think I'll be trying a Big Mac any time soon, though I am not in any pain unless I have been clenching my teeth. Then it is only a dull pain in the joint when I try to open past one finger. ~Cathy Re: Pain in jaw joints > > Thanks for your reply, Ray, but does it hurt to do what you are > talking about? > > It doesn't hurt as such.
