Hello Jen,

I am now only 12 days post op, and I must say it hasn't been a bad

experience thus far. I'm definitly glad I did it, and yes I look a

whole hell of a lot different. Its still hard to tell what it's going

to look like because there is still a little swelling, but when I

could first start to make out my cheek bones and realize what my new

smile is going to look like, I cried I was so happy.

I stayed in the hospital for only 23 hrs. My mom and my grandmother

were there with me. My doc originally only wanted to do my upper as

well, but there was just no way to get the result he wanted. To get

me ready for surgery, they gave me a valium to calm my nerves, which

I didn't think I needed, but I'm sure it helped. When I first woke up

I was in some pain, but they had an IV on me already and so I could

just press a button and I went back to sleep. Also the nausea meds

they have now are awesome, so I never once threw up or anything like

that. I got up and walked myself to bathroom, which gave me a nose

bleed. (Don't stand up too fast! LOL) I really only had nose bleeds

for two days, and not a whole lot of them. I took pain medication up

until two days ago, and I'm now only having a few wierd sensations in

my lower jaw and I take advil for that. I've been drinking Ensure for

breakfast ( I think the chocolate tastes like coco puffs), smoothies

at lunch, broth for dinner (now its baked potatoes with lots of sour

cream, or soups)..

My bite isn't perfect yet, so I still have some work with my

orthodontist. I really can't wait to talk to him.

My stitches are all starting to fall out or dissolve away. I brush

with a child's toothbrush, rinse with something the doc perscribed

and saline solution. Laughing and smiling hurts my upper lip a little

because of the stitches, but I can't stop myself. I don't have

anxiety anymore about smiling. I totally recommend having this

surgery. There is still some numbness, but its all coming back in its

own time. If you have any more questions, just ask away.
