Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I'm so glad I found this site. I feel like I've been going through this alone. I'm on day 13 after surgery. I had my upper jaw moved upward and slightly widened, and I had my lower jaw moved forward, and was given a chin. My swelling has almost completely gone away - although I still look a little pudgy. I'm happy to have a chin, but I feel like I look really different - and not at all better. One of my major goals was to get my lips to close. I realize I'm still in " fixation mode " (is it normal to still be rubber-banded shut after 13 days?) - but my lips look no closer to closing than they did before my surgery. Is there a waiting period before this will happen? I know I'm not supposed to judge yet - but I feel like I can tell what I'm going to look like, and I'm not very happy with it. Any advice? Guest guest
Hi, I had the EXACT same surgery as you 16 days ago. i am banded with 5 elastics, 2 on one side 3 on the other. my lips do close. i am NOT all done with swelling, though most is gone as is most bruising. i am numb as the dickens from my lower eye area to below my chin. i THINK i like my chin. itis off center right now but i have determined that to be from swelling. my surgeon is super pleased with how things look and how they are going and i am going to see my ortho this week. Keep us posted as to your progress. time truly is a healer. > Hi Everyone, > > I'm so glad I found this site. I feel like I've been going through > this alone. I'm on day 13 after surgery. Guest guest
So, - When did your lips start closing? Were they closing right away, or did it take awhile? I'm just really worried that they're still going to be a half inch separated for my whole life - which is exactly why I had the surgery. I hate to sound so fatalistic, but I was really hoping to see them close. Thanks for the help. > > Hi Everyone, > > > > I'm so glad I found this site. Guest guest
Hey, I had a slightly different surgery than yours: they moved my upper jaw forward and reduced my chin, but I kinda know what you're feeling. I had my surgery done 2 weeks ago and there is still a lot of swelling under my eyes all the way down to my chin, and I kind of look like a monkey or maybe Princess Fiona from Shrek, which isn't exactly attractive. I think that it's hard to tell what we'll really look like until all the swelling goes down, so I wouldn't worry about it for the moment. Guest guest
Hi , I have to say that my lips were closed pretty much right after surgery. As i mentioned, i am 16 days post and just today my mom, who spent a better part of my young existence saying " , close your mouth " , not knowing that i WAS breathing through my nose, i just could not close my lips, said to me today, It's great to see how relaxed you look with your lips closed. I agree. It seems very natural for them to be closed. I would speak with your surgeon next time you meet with him or her. it still could be that swelling will relax them to a more closed state. katie > > > Hi Everyone, > > > > > > I'm so glad I found this site.
