Guest guest
Hey guys, I'm new to this thing, but I've been reading the posts and it's so comforting to know that there's an entire community who has either experienced, is experiencing, or will experience orthognathic surgery, and currently, I am experiencing it. It's almost been 2 weeks since my upper jaw and genioplasty (chin reduction) surgery, and I've become a little bit frustrated because of the whole liquid diet thing, it's no fun. Most of my swelling has gone down and I am grateful for that, but it's so tedious now that it's taking longer for the swelling under my eyes, around my nose and mouth to go down. I was really optimistic about everything until today for some reason, it's like everything completely plummeted. I was doing my usual daily activities like shopping, going to restaurants, and going to movies, hanging with friends, but I'm just so anxious to look normal again and eat solid foods that I miss sooo much! I just need to know if I made the right choice about having this surgery in the first place and if all this is really worth it. I'll post some before and after photos once my frown turns upside down. P.S. I'm 18 and going to college soon, so the hormones don't exactly help with all the transitions I'm going through.
Guest guest
You and I are in the EXACT same place. I've been having mostly good days - but every now and then, I look in the mirror and cry. What we need is " The Swan " program, where we aren't allowed to look in the mirror until " our transformation is complete " ! I also have had second thoughts and I'm worried that my husband will never get to look at the girl he married again. It's totally stressful. But, you're right - it's only been two weeks. We ARE still swollen, even if most of the swelling has gone away. I like the " Fiona " comparison. I was saying I look like " Gertie " from E.T. - but you might be too young for that. It was just Drew Barrymore with a really round pudgy face. Anyway - I agree, it sucks waiting. I smell the pizza my husband orders, or the spaghetti my mom cooks, and I just want to cry some more. But, we'll make it through!! And, for you - before college is the PERFECT time for this surgery. Don't worry about the hormones - college will be the most fun you've ever had!! Keep us all updated on your progress, and I'll try to do the same! - > Hey guys, I'm new to this thing, but I've been reading the posts and > it's so comforting to know that there's an entire community who has > either experienced, is experiencing, or will experience orthognathic > surgery, and currently, I am experiencing it. Guest guest
- Thank you SO MUCH for your post! It's so nice to know someone else is in the same boat as me. I just took a shower and feel so much more refreshed and my temporary state of depression has kind of drifted. I'm glad to hear that before college is a good time to do it, and now I am very excited about it! I kind of had a panic attack today as I received my college materials. I was like " oh great, MORE stress! " but I have to be more positive. I wish you the best of luck in your recovery, we will make it together! The best of luck to you!
