Guest guest
I think feeling queasy is one of the worst feelings. I am usually very sensitive to this but they gave me meds for it, ones that they use on chemo patients. They did not send me home with anything but I know that with a previous surgery, I was given sapositories and they worked wonderfully. Will he not take his meds because of the taste? I can relate to that, I definitely avoided my meds due to taste but I found that if I used one of my kids siringes (for thier meds)and shot that medicine right to the back of my throat and swallowed in one gulp then followed with milk, it wasn't as bad. Days 3 and 4 were by far like living in a nightmare for me. I had to take valium and xanax along with everything else. I feel for him. Just get him through today and each day WILL get better. I am 3 1/2 weeks post op and I have my bad moments but I feel so much better. Also, as with childbirth, you kind of forget the intesity of everything. Guest guest
-I'm postop day 6. I thought phenergan supp really help with the quesies. Also he's probably dehyrated and this cause nausea. I was told to push fluids (60 ml syringe every hour). I use the 5cc syringe to squirt the med at the back of the throat and to gulp fast and chase with vanilla or choc ensure. I definitely get the supp since this will help with meds and eating. It does get better slowly. Hope your son feels better soon!! Good Luck!! Guest guest
I could not manage to swallow the liquid antibiotics or pain killers. After a few days of trying & vomiting each time I stopped. I didn't tell my OS that I stopped taking antibiotics though. When I did try I was vomiting all the food & liquid I had taken. I decided it was better for me to get vitamins from food & gambled that I would be ok without antibiotics. I figured that since I was in hospital for 4 days on IV drip that I must have a good amount of antibiotics in my system. Fortunately up to now (almost 10 weeks) I have not encountered any problems. I felt much better not trying to swallow those foul tasting meds. Obviously your son MUST try to take the meds, thats why the docs prescribe them - I'm just saying that I was ok. Also I rinsed my mouth with a very strong hot salt water wash at least once an hour & doubled the dose of the mouth rinse the hospital gave me. For the pain I found a lemon flavoured ibuprofen which dissolved on the tongue. Not sure if this is sold in USA. I got it in England - its just an over the counter painkiller but was very effective. I know its not nice at all but it does get better - hope he perserveres with meds. > my son is day 3 post op, and today is not good. Guest guest
I am day 4 and I am not hungry at all. I have to force myself to eat and I made sure I stocked up on appetizing things so I would be tempted, but this has not helped. with my antibiotic I push it as far back as I can and then put the tube from the zip-n-squeeze bag back there and squirt some water and swallow. He needs to take his anti-biotic, could he take with just juice perhaps? A table spoon of plain fresh yougurt does wonders for any problems the anti-biotic may cuase. I've been doing a lot of milkshakes with fresh fruit and vitimin powder, that at least tastes good to me. I think this is where most of my nourishment will come from, in the next few days. Applesauce has helped with the queasiness as well. Hope some of this helps and your son starts to eat, he will improve tremendously once his nourishment levels increase. Guest guest
-- Did you ask your doctor about nausea med? The supp they gave me helped alot. I can blend applesauce and yogurt, liquify with anything and strain. I'm banded and think the zip and squeeze is better than a syringe (except for med taking). Good luck, In orthognathicsurgerysupport , yergat1@a... wrote: > yesterday we mixed the antibiotic with the milkshakes, but today his stomach > is too queasy to even try. Is your jaw banded?
