2 separate surgeries

Hi,

I am scheduled to have upper and lower jaw surgery starting in late

Sept to correct underbite. My surgeon does the two surgeries

separately--upper first, and then after 6-8 weeks he'll do the lower.

From reading other people's posts, it seems that they usually have

both upper and lower done the same time and day. Is it common to

have separate surgeries with 6-8 weeks time inbetween? Are there

advantages/disadvantages to this approach?

Thanks,

Most folks have both done at once, far as I know. (We're not talking

about the SARPE here, with the expander, I'm thinking.)

The big reason that suggests itself to me for NOT doing it in two

different procedures is that you have to have the anesthesia twice,

plus the expense of the OR, anesthesiologist, etc. But ask your doc

why he wants to do it that way. He may (and probably does) have an

excellent reason. (Included in that " excellent " to me, would be that

he has better results that way, or that you have some particular

problems that will require two rounds of surgery to mend.)
