Guest guest
Connie, I always love to see your posts.... I know alot of people are leery about trying the AP... I know I was for a long time. Please don't quit sending your info on it... If it weren't for all your nudges, I don't think I'd be where I am today.... I had alot of disappointments along the way, (not getting to see Dr Franco,) but look..... it all worked out... LOL I can not swear that the Biaxin is what is helping me, but I am on no other drug except pred for the RP and this is the first time in 3 years that I have been able to decrease my pred this low and have NO flares at all.... I haven't had a flare in 2 months ANYWHERE!! Whoopie!!!! I do still feel achey and fatigued at times but can deal with this, as I feel each time I do it is getting rid of more toxins... I will take each day at a time and hope the day gets here real soon that I don't have to take any more pred.... You take care and keep sending those nudges..... and we will see what happens... hugs
Guest guest
Hi Everyone :-) I've posted this site before.....but for the newbies and anyone else who needs it. As many of you know, I have a keen interest in linking past infections to the development of RP and many of the other 100+ autoimmune diseases in the rheumatoid arthritis family. http://www.emedicine.com/derm/topic375.htm It is interesting to note that in the site mentioned above, that in the "medications used" Dapsone is described as: "Dapsone (Avlosulfon)- Bactericidal and bacteriostatic against mycobacteria; mechanism of action is similar to that of sulfonamides in which competitive antagonists of PABA prevent formation of folic acid, inhibiting bacterial growth. Used in some patients in whom prednisone did not control symptoms. Successes and failures have been reported; therefore, prednisone remains the DOC." More and more doctors are beginning to treat the various rheumatic diseases with antibiotics in the tetracycline family...Minocin, doxycycline, clindamycin, and also Biaxin and Zithromax. Successes and failures have been also reported in using this treatment, but in my experience, the failures are due to variables such as not sticking to the treatment for long enough, not using the combination of antibiotics, an immune system that is so weakened that it cannot mount a fight against mycoplasma and other infections......etc. Most of these failures can be rectified. Dr. Trentham has reported that Minocin is an alternative to Methotrexate. If you are interested in reading more about the antibiotic treatment for other rheumatic diseases, www.rheumatic.org www.roadback.org and www.immed.org are good sources. Take care, Connie
Guest guest
Hi :-) I'm just happy you are doing so well......do remember, most people who are on the antibiotic protocol (AP) notice their improvements are a three steps forward, one or two back pattern from time to time. Don't panic when it happens...just know that it is common. I don't know if it has anything to do with the reproductive cycle of the various " bugs " ...mycoplasma or whatever. Mycoplasma are slow reproducing organisms and maybe when they do go on a spree, we notice an increase in symptoms...? I know a lot of people are leery of the AP....you can't blame someone though, if their doctor has shot down the idea....The good thing is that more and more doctors are finding out that it really works or are at least willing to try it. Hopefully, they will follow the protocol as described in the rheumatic.org and other literature. Take care, and remember ....lots of water, and a healthy diet go a long way in helping your body get rid of the " bugs " :-) ~Connie H > Connie, I always love to see your posts.... > > I know alot of people are leery about trying the AP... Guest guest
Hi Connie, Well, I'm not a newbie, but I sure don't remember this article. Thank you so much. Some great info here and up to date too. I haven't finished going over it yet, but I've already learned quite a bit more about RP than I knew. Thank you for sharing this with us. I for one, appreciate it very much. W >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Hi Everyone :-) I've posted this site before.....but for the newbies and anyone else who needs it. Guest guest
You're welcome, :-) I really like the whole emedicine.com for all kinds of medical topics.....another nice thing about it is, if there's a term in the text that you don't know (this rarely happens!! yeah, right LOL :-) you can right click, drag the mouse and highlight on the term and it will automatically pop up with a definition and other places to find the term. Also...did you notice in the " link of further interest " section (or whatever it's called, there's a link to the RP website?? I found out about this site kind of by accident. As a parent of a Creighton University student we receive a parent-magazine every now and then....I think lots of schools do this....anyway, there was mention of a Creighton University School of Medicine doctor who had started the www.emedicine.com website, so I had to check it out. Take care :-) Connie H > Hi Connie, > Well, I'm not a newbie, but I sure don't remember this article. > Thank you so much. Guest guest
Hi Lu :-) There's a D.O. Doctor by the name of Dr. ph Mercola who has his practice near Chicago, in Schaumberg, IL. He is a huge proponent of the idea that a healthy diet can go a long way in helping our bodies. He backs up his remarks by years of clinical practice and patient feedback. Of course he doesn't make any wild claims that diet can " cure " nasty diseases like RP....but he still asks that his patients follow his carefully planned recommendations before starting many treatments and medications. His diet recommendations are used as a basis in the rheuamtic.org site.....the thinking is that the antibiotics can do half of the work in ridding the body of mycoplama, but the body has to do the rest....and feeding it a healthy diet is key. Dr. Mercola thoroughly investigates new treatments and is willing to apply them as needed....I've read a lot of his website and because I'm familiar with his passion for doing the very best for his patients, I look with a very open mind. Hi diet pays strict attention to preventing diabetes, which he says is made such a problem by our high carbohydrate diets. He also wants his patients to eat a lot of vegetables, strictly limit sugar, including that in fruits and have a source of protein in the form of organic meats....mostly chicken and fish. He goes into detail on the reasoning for these recommendations. Dr. Mercola also prescribes the antibiotic treatment that I've been talking about for his patients with RA and related diseases....somehow I doubt that he's had any or many RP patients since it is pretty rare. OK.......his main website is http://www.mercola.com and in it he has lots of articles that have appeared over the years in the various medical journals and following the articles, if you scroll down, you will find his comments and ideas on the various articles......whether he thinks the scientific reasoning is sound or biased or erroneous. Try searching for " arthritis " His main website for the diet recommendations (including the reasoning behind them) is at: http://www.mercola.com/diet.htm and the detailed version is at: http://www.mercola.com/forms/wellness_condensed.htm .........and I bet you wanted a simple diet :-) Well, it is, really.....lots of vegies, water, meat....and no sugar, breads and goodies! Take care Lu! Maybe it will even help your gall bladder....do a search on Dr. Mercola's search engine and maybe there's something that will help. ~Connie H > Well Connie, dear sweet only had that CB to drive LU nuts...lol she > knew I would want one too.
