Guest guest
a, My husband was actually sick for about 13 years or more. He was first diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease and was treated for that for 6 years to no avail. Each time we told the nuerologist the meds were not helping, he would up them or add something else, but kept insisting he had PD. I didn't believe so, as the symptoms I saw didn't look like PD to me. I started the rounds of neurological clinics, First Phoenix (Barrows) then Loma (Calif) then Ohio State University where he was finally diagnosed with PSP, by Dr son, who was really quite an expert with PSP. At least he was working with those patients. He did say, as well as at Loma , that it is possible it was MSA but they were pretty sure he had PSP because of the ocular problems. That was in 95. He passed away in 2000, after being on a feeding tube and catheter for 4 years, and being almost totally paralysed. I used a Hoyer lift to move him from bed to wheelchair. His cognitive abilities seemed to remain pretty sharp, but he could not speak. He was 73 when he passed away. If you want more information send me your private e-mail and I will be happy to share anything I can with you.
