Guest guest
Ditto on the plunger expertise! This is the first time I've seen this mentioned - I thought it was our toilet, (and, to some extent I think it is - these low-flow toilets are terrible!) I'll bet we could exchange some experiences - not interesting to most, I'm sure. Elaine Grimmesey
Guest guest
Now that you've "plunged in" - have you found a specific type of plunger that works? We haven't. Only that the old fashioned kind seem to work better than the "super-duper" brands. I don't want to be graphic either, but we often find it necessary to remove rather than to just flush. Boy, any hints in this area would be helpful!! Yes, we use a stool softener...but often need to use alternative laxative methods. Guest guest
Seems the plunger brigade is stepping forward. There are obviously quite a few of us claiming to be experts. Elaine, I refer to our low flow toilets as " no flow " toilets. There must be a better way to save water than having a toilet that you must flush 5 times instead of once. Sorry to have " plunged " right into the topic but I just laughed when I read the posts. Guess I should have known I wasn't the only one mastering the technique of the plunger. Guest guest
Nothing short of blasting caps worked here. I got some stuff to pour into the commode to dissolve the waste. Boy! Bill and I spent many an evening trying to figure out an easy way. There is none, especially if the thing is flushed at the wrong time. Then it is mopping time. Ugh. There were times when I was thankful for the smaller water tank on the toilet. Less on the floor. Take care. Keep the DO NOT FLUSH sign up. Barb. Guest guest
I have had many problems with " no flow " toilets and have one trick to share. Before you start, be sure the plunger itself is absolutely full of water when held with the open end up. You ask: Well how do you keep the water in it? simple, put a temporary cap on it and hold it in place with one hand as you put the plunger into the water in the bowl. It is a bit messy - use gloves - but it makes the plunger much more effective as you are not compressing air trapped in the plunger. Guest guest
Well, eventually this subject had to come up. When Ken was alive, we kept the plunger right next to the toilet so we could get it in a hurry. BUT, there was very little we could do the day he got very rigid as we were transferring him to the toilet, and he broke the whole thing and flooded the house. Guest guest
Elaine: We just used a coat hanger and tried to break everything up before flushing. Oh my, what a subject. Barbara

Guest guest
I certainly agree with you on the low flow toilets. We have kept our 1973 commodes, even thought I would love to get rid of the color, because of the problem with flushing. Our son and daughter-in-law who live in west TN have a beautiful new home with the water saving toilets. Speedy and I could be in there home for 1 hour or less and have one or more stopped up.
