Hello everyone!

In light of the recent series of messages about an advanced case of TB

in Florida, we wanted to introduce folks to the Southeastern National TB

Center (SNTC). The SNTC is an excellent resource, especially for

clinicians dealing with tuberculosis detection, prevention, treatment

and education.

The Southeastern National Tuberculosis Center (SNTC) is one of four

Regional Training and Medical Consultation Centers (RTMCCs) funded by

the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The SNTC provides TB

education and training, technical assistance, and medical consultation

for 11 southeastern states (Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia,

Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina,

Tennessee, Virginia), Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. There are

other Centers in Texas, New Jersey and California.

As part of their medical consultation activities, the SNTC has a 24/7

Hotline to respond to TB questions from physicians and other members of

the health care team involved with individuals with TB (or those

suspected of having TB). T

The Hotline number is 1-800-4TB-INFO.

The SNTC has a website, http://sntc.medicine.ufl.edu (information about

training activities, resource materials, and other information critical

to TB.)

For other services, contact SNTC offices at 1-888-265-7692.

In June, you will be able to access new, free, down loadable materials

that the Rural Women's Health Project developed for the SNTC to support

Hispanic community awareness (posters, PSAs, calendars, fotonovela

strips for newspapers), and fotonovela materials for clients on TB

basics and treatment adherence. Watch for the upcoming announcement to

access these materials.
