Guest guest
I am new to this group and was wondering what the difference was between this group and the orthognathicsurgerysite2 group on Yahoo? I just joined this one because I saw it first? Are there any differences between the two? Thanks for any info. Helen
Guest guest
As far as I can tell the second group was created because the moderator of this group was not longer present and people were having technical problems with photos and such. There is a new moderator and this group no longer has the technical problems, but the second group still has a lot more room for photos I believe. Most active posters are on both groups and I read both of them faithfully, there is some repetition, but sometimes there are things on one site that are not posted on the other so it is worth it. Guest guest
Hi Helen (and any newbies!), I'm the owner & co-moderator (along with Cammie) of site 2, and it was created because this site was not being maintained (the original owner had pretty much abandoned it). There are also a number of other groups on the net, but these two are the most popular. In the beginning I tried to make suggestions to the owner here about sharing the moderating tasks, and give her tips on things that she could do to improve the site, but was unsuccessful. The other site http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/orthognathicsurgerysite2 has well-organized links, tons of photos with lots more room available, and it's a smaller community of members (some members have said they find the large group more intimidating). Unfortunately the official photos section on this site is inaccessible, and has been for a loooong time. Photo sections require almost constant maintenance when they get very large. Site 2 also has all of its original posts - when yahoo turned the " clubs " into " groups " , this group completely lost its early history. I was able to preserve some of the better early posts on a geocities info website I set up (which has tons of links, FAQs, etc. and is easier to navigate than searching archives on either of the groups). You can access it at http://www.geocities.com/orthognathicinfo The first reason I started both the group and the website was to collect information for my own use as I got closer to my surgery & recovery, but then I realized that this info would be of use to many other people. I guess I figured at the time the orthognathic world needed a better mousetrap so I built it. And people have used it, and it's still serving a valuable function, so it's still there. And that's today's history lesson. > I am new to this group and was wondering what the difference was > between this group and the orthognathicsurgerysite2 group on Yahoo? > I just joined this one because I saw it first? Guest guest
I second what Marsha said and also second 's input regarding the smaller size of membership for site 2. I found site 2 first, but try to drop in on both once in a while. I'm over a year post-op and doing very well, but I feel it's important for me to stay somewhat active and give back to groups that gave so much to me as I got ready for and recovered from my surgery. > > I am new to this group and was wondering what the difference was > > between this group and the orthognathicsurgerysite2 group on > Yahoo? > > I just joined this one because I saw it first? Guest guest
Hi , I remember being referred or forwarded by somebody to site two to look at some pix or something and i had to sign up, i did and it said something about my signup needing to be reviewed by moderators or something like that. i have not heard anything since. Would you be able to advise? I have been posting on this site for about 4 weeks and had my surgery 2.5 weeks ago. Thanks, katie > > I am new to this group and was wondering what the difference was > > between this group and the orthognathicsurgerysite2 group on > Yahoo? > > I just joined this one because I saw it first? Guest guest
Yes, it's true that we have opted to approve all new members (it's more work, but it keeps spammers away. I will have another look at your membership status - there are no pending memberships at the moment. Thanks for letting me know, . > Hi , > > I remember being referred or forwarded by somebody to site two to > look at some pix or something and i had to sign up, i did and it said > something about my signup needing to be reviewed by moderators or > something like that. i have not heard anything since.
